Now the puzzling part when I switch side lights on I get dipped beam  This is strange because I didn't touch the side light circuits.

Thanks for the pic (y)

I assume the fuses are the square thing inbetween the relays? It certainly looks like a neat set-up :)

You say dipped beam comes on with the sidelights. Is this sidelights on the light switch, Parking lights with the ign barrel, or both

If it's only with the switch and not when the sidelights are put on using the park function on the ign barrel, then it could be to do with the dim dipped function fitted to the panda's (where dipped beam comes on at half brightness with the sidelights.

If you want to stop this from happening then you could try disconnecting the dim dipped coil.

Pre injection engine's this is mounted in a square tube thing on the left (when looking at then engine bay)(Drivers side) suspension mount under the engine. Injection models have this item just above the cooling fan on the front slam pan.

Cheers Jon, I can't say I tried the parking light function, but what say does sound feasible. I didn't realise these was a dip dip function, as the bulbs were so dim at the best of times!!

Now I know what that coil is for (I had wondered ) I can investigate further. Its not a problem is it's own right as I have dipped and main beam available, is just nice to have things 'right'. I don't suppose you have a circuit diagram do you?

No problem. Yes thats right. Its a twin fuse holder with a clear cover on it. I found the bracket at work and adapted it to fit on to the wiper motor fixing, thus negating the need to drill any body work (y). Plus being back there it is reasonably well protected from the elements, but still easy to get to.

I can confirm it is only lights with the ignition on, and not parking lights. Thus backing your statement. Unfortunatly I am not going to be able to look into this in detail until next week now :(. I'll let you know the out come.

Finally got around to checking this out last night. With the multi meter out I determined which wire was the output from the dim dip resistor (red wire) and disconnected it.

I now have side lights in switch pos. 1 and dipped in pos.2, which is what I wanted. :)
Thanks Jon for your assistance with this one. I would never have looked at that coil ! I can't beleive it is not referenced anywhere in the haynes manual (n)

Now for some LED side light bulbs.......:yum:

I got some you can have for a few quid(PM me) (could only buy them in bulk on eBay)

They're really good :yum:

I'll get some night shoot's tonight foryou, but hope these help a little.

What are the LED light heads under your head lights for?

They're DRL (Day time running Lights). Not effective from where I took the pic, but are from 3 car's away and further. They always come on when the ignition is switched on. Fitted them in Jan and never looked back (y)

Here are some pic's I took tonight for you. The light's may look Blueish, but that's the camera. They're a white/blue and not a blue/blue if that makes sense;

20082008166.jpg
Dipped headlamp (looks light main beam, but isn't)

20082008167.jpg
Dim Dipped / Sidelights (position 1 on switch)

and Parking light's via ignition key

The pic's don't do the real life effect justice really :( (y)

Right. I thought I'd resurect (sp?) this thread as its on topic.

I've been having problems with the Sisley and it's headlight switch. Burnt out two Fiat ones, and so install a Heavy Duty general one from Halfords which has finally burnt out. So thought as more of a bodge I'd wire them in direct by putting a bit of wire between the two connections.

Worked fine for another week until sitting in traffic and I see's smoke in front of me

So I thought right, enough is enough, and finally (was planning on doing it eventually) got around to cleaning the earth hedgehogs and replacing all of the female earth connectors on the inside of both wings.

Went out that night, but that hadn't helped :(

So the next step - relaying the headlight individually to releave all strain from origional wiring.

Used some nice minature relays aquired from mk2+3 Punto's in a few scrappys and wired them in one afternoon last week.

Minature relay :D
You can see that I even got my fingers dirty :p

All was good. Driving around Norwich and the bit of wire that I'd bodged in that was over heating and melting was staying nice and cool (and I swear the headlights were brighter!)

Then I left Norwich for the dark country roads where I started to use the main beam. Touched the bodged bit of wire again...Only to burn my fingers :(

Main beam is now causing the system to over heat. So now got to relay each headlight for the main beams. But atleast the problem will be solved finally, even if I do have 2 relays by each headlight. But atleast the minature relays look neat and if my 'touch the wire and seek heat' test go well I'll be able to install a propper switch again :)

The only downside is that there is no-longer the dim-dip function due to the way I've wired the relays in. So it's with dipped headlights or nothing. Don't think this is an MOT failure though as the parking lights through the ignition still work fine.

Some pic's of the finished job though (y)

I seem to have collected alot of fused spurs with all the lights I've had / got on the Sisley. :p

Photo0485.jpg

Nearside headlamp and minature relay. +ve wire was run along the bulkhead and down the leg from the battery for this relay and then
-ve just across to hedgehog.

Look how nice and clean my earths and hedgehogs are now also, hehe.

Photo0484.jpg

Offside headlamp and minature relay. +ve wire run down leg from battery. Then -ve back to earthing block half way up leg.
You can also compare the minature relay in size to the full sized 40 amp one installed for the grille lights in the top left of the pic.

Jon.

P.s, I recomend you try and aquire some of these minature relays if in a scrappy with Punto's, as they seem to come in handy :p (y)

Hmmmmm...lots of puntos at bridges!!!... Neat job Jon..(y)

kev

Lol. Thanks.

Yes, inner fuse box by drivers right knee. Should be 3 in there. 2 30amps and a 20 amp, or maybe the other way around.

As you can see from my electrical tool box I've managed to aquire a few that are now all sitting nicely in their own little compartment. 3 black ones, and 3 reds, but will probably need to re-stock when I'm next down at bridges :p

Not a problem. Mine is wired this way (i.e. with no dim dip) and flew through it's MOT.

Offside headlamp and minature relay.

Are these mounted in any way?
