If a twin coil pack setup my money is on it being 1108cc, and me being correct all along (its been bugging me that its a 999cc injection Selecta, when I've never been aware of them existing).

Only other way is Selecta vs Selecta drag race

I've got a feeling you're almost certainly right. It's more likely -- from my (limited) experience -- that ePER is right, and it's been misregistered at the DVLA, because of the transition from 999 (carb'd) to 1108 (injected) Selectas....

Until then, I shall be valuing it at several squillion squid: as it's the only known 999 cc injected Selecta (impersonates Mr Clarkson) in the world.... :D

Or it's had a replacement engine...

Seems unlikely... -- the mileage has crept up steadily by around 5,000 miles, each year, according to the plethora of old MOT certificates; and there are quite a few old bills, etc., but nothing to indicate any major change.... I reckon it's a pytical DVLA SNAFU....

Very '70's but what's it got to do with DVLA smeg ups?!! ;)

I now feel very, very old....

Like the use of pytical btw (y)

Perhaps it should be this week's word, erk, clack, etc....? :D

PS: Whilst we're rambling insanely (for a change...), I saw a Maestro, yesterday; and, for a car launched 30 years ago, I thought it looked pretty cool.... :nutter:

Sorry!

Oh no, not a Miserystro - quite like the MG versions but don't tell anyone - the Montego's starting to appeal too. Erk!! :bang:

I love a Maestro! Had a works Maestro Van and a Maestro Clubfoot too :)

Got to say the Van was more fun than the Clubfoot though.

My Brother had a Montego EFi andput it in a ditch a few times, very quick car

I keep seeing Metro's cheap and wondering.......

Fiat distinguished the carburated "fire" family from each other by the colour of the cambelt covers, green was 750, black was 999 and blue was 1108ccm. 1.0 and 1.1 spis had black cover. So is it carbed and what is the colour of the cambelt cover?:)

It's dark blue... -- but I thought that just applied to Selectas.

It has the injection light on the dash (but this could be from a replacement -- although I doubt it, because of the available history...); and I honestly, now, can't remember exactly, the layout of the engine bay -- as I was trying to work out (i) what size engine it had; (ii) if it sounded okay; and (iii) where the oil leak was coming from.

Once I get him home, I shall let you all know. :)

Interesting! The selecta in the breakers near me is a Kreg and I couldn't figure out why being a selecta it had the black air box etc. it's also carbed so it would seem this was a very rare 999cc carbed selecta. Very sad as I would have been a mint car  wish I'd got to it a few months sooner than I did

Looks like it's going to be next Tuesday... -- so don't hold your breath! ;)

My money -- because of the manufacture date and blue cover -- are on it being a bog-standard 1108 injected Selecta...! :)

I really regret not taking any engine bay photos, now....

I thought 1108's were dark blue covers, 999's are black. It would make sense for it to be a 1108 but if its registered as a 999 its either a DVLA fartarse or its some sort of rare cross of 999 Selecta weirdness.

You are correct, being carb'ed or SPi doesn't make a difference. I'm now willing to put £5 on it being a 1108cc.

Not in the UK, Carb'ed or SPi didn't make a difference to the colour. Just engine size. 1.1 blue, 999cc always black regardless of if SPi or carb'ed and 769cc green like you say :)

You are right, early 1.1 spi were also blue-covered:) I think in late 93/early94 black covered 1.1 spi-s entered production with punto.
