I could be buying a Bravo soon but the wife thinks a Grande Punto might be adequate. Anyone able to come up with pros and cons would be much appreciated.

GP isnt really a proper family car, if thats what you want or need then the Bravo.

I wish I had the chance of a Bravo when I bought my GPS but I am over the moon with the car I bought. The real choices when you decide on Model are :-

New v Used?
Petrol v Diesel?
Oooomph or Sips?
Colour?

Thanx Hellcat pleeze do! I luv 'em! Was almost tempted when I popped down to TJVickers recently, a gorgeous 58 plate 120 in gunmetal grey, 7,950 with 1,600 miles on it.

Damn Credit Crunch, I just dont want any debt at the mo... GPS had its last payment this month!

I keep getting tempted by all sorts of cars, mostly Alfas in the GT/159/Berrra form, but also masserati blue Bravos.

But I now have a 18 month plan which will see me enjoying the Bravo more when the risk of getting bored comes.

You FEEL Alfas, they choose you mostly lol! But in 18 months who knows what fickle femme fatale car will lure you in...;)

149 GTA? :chin:

The Bravo is as Alfa as you can get without being an Alfa. It has tunnel clocks, Alfa style driver-orientated dashboard, and Alfa looks. The 149 is being built on the Bravo platform so I'm going to be interested to see what they do with it without it looking like... well a Bravo!

edit:

Look at it! That's a Bravo with the wrong bumper fitted!

No argument from me!

But then wasn't the 147 built on the stilo platform? Stilo 3 door IMO handled fine, OK a little soft in the bends and vague in the steering but what can you expect for the money? I haven't driven a 147 to compare but as far as I can make out the experience is about the same.

The 147 had double wishbones at the front and independant rear so it was totallt different to drive, with pretty pin sharp steering, in fact I learnt to drive in a 2.0 TS Lusso 147, lovely car.

I hope the 149 keeps its alfa ness to drive, too much Fiat isnt whats needed!

that is just a rebadging trim job....

Remind anyone of BL?

I think the problem is Fiat have basically evolved their large Fiat too far - it now looks and feels like an Alfa more than ever, and it's putting real pressure on the mid size Alfa. They did wonders with the GP platform when they've made the Mito, I look forward to see if they can build in as much distictivness when they finish the Bravo platformed Alfa.

The 147 Alfa is built on a shortened 156 platform, so has no links to the Stilo. Ive done plenty of miles in a 147 2.0 Lusso. The ride is so hard, the handling is okay but not amazing as their is a lot of kick back through the steering wheel. Also in my opinion the Bravo is not better to drive then the Grande Punto. I had a 1.4 120 T bravo courtesy car, was a lovely car but found it lacked steering feel and grip compared to my Grande Punto 120 M-jet. When acclerating in the Bravo I found it span the front wheels far to easily.

LOL i also keep getting tempted by ALFA's, who isnt? If you drive a bravo... You must love alfa's :p

For me the bravo is just so much more than the punto, sorry ffoxy hehe.

And surely that new 147 is just a bravo with an alfa front middle lol.

And hi all i havent been here for a while :D

Of course! But as tempted by an Alfa as I am I am far more so by either a Ferrari or a Maserati which are both, as is the Alfa, Fiat's when all things considered that they own all these marques. :)

My last Alfa, which was a 2.0 Giulietta, was used as a getaway car for a bank job down in Weston-Super-Mare .... but that's a whole other story! :D (y)

I drive both a GPunto and a Bravo fairly regularly. The Bravo is a 150 Multijet Sport the GP is a 120 multijet dynamic. The diference between them is like night and day. The Punto is a good car dont get me wrong, but refinement wise (and economy wise) it lags behind the Bravo. It is noisier and doesnt feel as sure footed on the road. I would go for a Bravo every time. :)
