Forgot to mention this yesterday

3yr old van, yes 300k miles but, 1 main dealer and 1 independent garage have both been paid to change brake fluid.

Yesterday we bleed the whole system rears first

BLACK water like fluid!!!

Fronts had been done as the fluid was much closer to the correct Amber colour but darker

This is the mixed removed fluid (lighter than just rear fluid as front is mixed in)

Just makes you think A are we getting what we pay for B how safe are our vehicles C do garages know how to do a proper service any more!

That fluid should be about 10 months old

Thanks for the warning rolopolo. I have got to get my front brake pipes changed as the ferrels are showing signs of corrosion so I was going to get the fluid changed at the same time.

The other thing to warn is, prepare for whiplash after changing fluid that's this bad! I thought brakes were ok before!
She stops damn quick now :)

Sounds like you had air in system now been removed by all that bleeding

My local trusted mechanic tells me that there is a standard test for brake fluid that he does every service!?

Think the standard test my previous two garages used was the just do the front and if we swap the fluid in the cylinder he will think it's done, and charge him!!

That's what the Land Rover techs who did mine last week believe, from what they've seen in the trade.

Still all good and safe now, better brakes too
