I had both the lights come on as I started the car yesterday and they have stayed on since then (yellow light - think its the passenger airbag and the red airbag warning light). What could it be / could have caused the problem? And what is the best course of action that isn't going to cost me and arm and a leg.
Also im not sure if this is related but the steering warning light has also been coming on from time to time but goes off after a few restarts, i really cant afford to spend much more on my car so im looking for a quick fix.... i know the chance of this aren't great but it was worth a try before heading to fiat.

Thanks in advance

This happened to me about a month ago - I took it to chemix where they hooked it up to their computer and they couldn't isolate the fault - charged me £10. They told me to take it to Fiat - where it cost me £80 and they said they cleaned the connectors. Could try taking to a smaller garage and ask them to clean the connectors - but they might not be able to sort it. Or just go straight to fiat and pay. Or just leave it - its only the airbags.

What connectors did they clean? The ones on the actual airbags or the ones on the dash? As my steering warning light comes on now and again without any problems to the power steering. Hmm i wonder if this fault is covered under my policy with warrenty direct, doubt it though.
This is not good im starting to regret buying a fiat ive spent soo much money on it in the last 2 years and it just wants more and more :(

ok will take it up tomorrow, just hope its an easy fix that doesnt cost much, being a student with no money really sucks at the moment :(

working 55 hours a week with no money sucks aswell but your safety is more important. Let us know how you get on bearing in mind there is a loom modification that your car might well require but its not expensive.

Just out of interest, why does this modification have to be paid for if it need to be done due to a design fault I assume. Surly it should be free?

Yeh that would also suck quite a bit :(
Should i ask them about the power steering warning light aswell?
I'd understand all these problems if i didnt look after my car, its been serviced on time since i got it at a decent garage, always got the best parts/oils, and its only got 32000 on the clock, i must have spent over £1500 in the last 9 months on just maintainace and things going wrong :bang:

Well I could be assuming right, but if designed correctly it wouldn't need modification at a later date surly
you have a point there..... but am i going to get the work done for free... i think not lol
but on the other hand you never know they might be a decent fiat dealer and help me out..

Oh and one more thing..... will they mess around with the ecu? As ive had it re-mapped....... and im a long way from london at the moment to go back to red dot to get the map put back on

So I think i've tempted fate here, my warning lights have come back on today, and a fuse has blown twice that powers the interior centre console lights behind the temperature control and the rear numberplate light. - anyone else had this?

you say if it was a design fault it would effect all punto's ,you could get a batch fault that only affected a certain quantity of cars and lets face it you only have to look at this and other forums it is probably the most common fault on punto's and how does the new loom differ from the old one

yours geofb

airbag light can be brought on by many things, I said it might well require a loom modification, everyone else jumped in with Fiat should be paying/design fault/new looms etc, not me!

Dont forget forum owners represent what 1% of punto owners in UK/world etc, certainly not the most common punto fault thats for sure.

Does anyone know if when i take my car to fiat if they will replace the map if they have to reset the ecu? I could be talking utter rubbish but thats why im asking i dont know...

Ok, just got back from fiat, they are going to charge £60 to do the diagnostics and then parts and labour depending on what they find....
They just seemed quite unhelpful to be honest, im going to take the car back home to st.albans this weekend (currently in wales) to my local garage and get the to do the diagnostics there as they will probably do it for free or not very much.
