Technical Boot / Tailgate Rattling away

Over the last couple of weeks I have been hearing a rattling noise from the boot area of the car, now I thought it was stuff I had in the boot container, but ive removed those and its still there.
So I did some of the usual thump and movement tests as you do on the seats and I hear the noise, but ti comes from the shelf area, so move the seats down, check the shelf, nothing, and then I press on the boot, and there it is, that noise I hear when driving, its coming from the boot door!

So my boot is very rattly and ive no idea what to do to resolve this, any ideas ??

Do you have split fold seats? If you do, wedge something in between them, a folded over magazine is ideal. Then go for a drive and see what happens.

Mine had this. Reduced by the garage making bigger rubber bump stops as the tailgate was rattling in the aperture. Very metallic clangy rattle. Very annoying.

I had a rattle in the boot area of my 08 1.4 sport for ages and after doing the usual - removing everything from the boot, ensuring that the splits were firmly home, checking the exhaust, etc. it was a knackered shock absorber. Once the pair were replaced under warranty - the rattle went away.

If it is the boot door itself, the rubber bump stops on it are adjustable - twist them to screw them out a bit. The boot should need a bit of closing force to latch.

Careful though, they don't twist much before popping out. Or at least mine did.

That's exactly the noise.

Well this is going to sound odd, after a few weeks of all that, its stopped by itself, but I suspect it will be the rubber stops needing an adjustment which i'll look into if it comes back again.

That's good to hear. I'm that highly strung where rattles are concerned it made me dislike the car as it NEVER stopped rattling at any point of any journey, even rattling when you were stationary and just closing the doors!
Much worse in warm weather. Hope yours stays away!

Going to revive this one, mines has been doing the above.
Even tried adjusting the stops but it doesnt make any difference. Infact I find them rather loose to begin with, so maybe that is a problem there.
Anyhow boot closes with zero force too.

It possible that my door stops are infact to blame as they are not strong enough ?

Have you tried the usual? Made sure the seats are securely clipped into place, there is nothing loose in the back in the wheel well and that the seat buckles aren't hittiong anything?

There is something loose behind the boot card in my sisters 500 its on my list of jobs to do,,,,,,,,,

Yup have done, deffo the boot lit, can even replicate the noise by pushing on the bootlit from the outside.
But then the entire interior rattles, creaks and vibrates anyway

I had the same issue on a Panda - so similar parts. Tried all the usual - endless adjustments of the catch , rubber bump stops etc etc. Turned out to be the tailgate struts when in the closed position. Drove with tailgate open and no rattle. Initially greased up the cups that attach the struts to the body ( they get a bit loose with time ) , but eventually changed the struts and problem solved.

I've had a look at the struts and have found that the left side one is extremely loose and wobbly even when the boot is open. There is a quite a large amount of movement to it in the center area, while the right side one is a lot more secure and snug.

guess that can be considered my cause of the noise.
