Hi ackie. Realise that you car is over 3 years old being a '08 - it was on a very recent thread :). A Fiat dealer 'friend' of mine could not get the adaptor to work on his '08 sport reliably and eventually gave up. Suggest using a USB memory stick. I use my iphone as a satnav and a phone and if it has to do to many things it effects the quality of the phone call reception. You could always try updating the system to 5.5 again but remember you cannot go 'backwards'. On the iphone you could do a hardware reset but to be honest I don't think its worth it.

Hi! The problem with using a memory stick Is that I use mac and not windows so every track on my iTunes library is formats to mac! It won't let me convert songs that I have purchased from iTunes into mp3!!:bang:

Not wanting to be unhelpful, but this is a very good reason not to buy a Mac, an iPhone or to use iTunes as you're always going to be limited as to what you can do.

What multispoke has suggested in terms of updating the car and also the iPhone is the best thing to try.

Hi
Sorry I dont know which format is the problem i.e memory stick file table format or file format but try this...

on your mac you can go into 'disk utility' and format the memory stick as FAT or FAT32 and then you will be able to see it in windows or a mac, and you can export the tunes from itunes in any format you like (i.e. aac or mp3). Im pretty sure blue and me supports aac but if it doesnt then go into itunes preferences then into import options, change it to mp3 and then when you right hand mouse click on each track in itunes you will get an option to create mp3 version. you will be better off with aac so try that first

mac's are not the problem in fact mac's can read and create any file or disk format (its just knowing how to do it), the problem is windows is its still stuck in the 80's and can only support a couple of disk formats.:bang:

Very odd response Maxi...

ackie... nothing wrong with Macs at all they are Rolls Royce of products (I have been using Macs since 1989, PCs a bit longer), perhaps the answer should be don't buy a Fiat because Fiat can't be a***d to provide a solution for iPhone 4, can't be that hard, I bet within 2 years they will move from Win to Apple !!

Anyway back on topic, there are compatibility issues with iPhone 4, worth trying your configuration with IOS 4 on iPhone 3 just to confirm. Not applicable to you but cars delivered from May 2011 and pre iPhone 4 work seamless so new car owners don't need to convert to a substandard MP3 from a lossless format, be it PC or Mac based.

Okay here is a solution to your issue (note not for DRM, but that's possible too see below).

1) iTunes, preferences, general, Ask to import CD, click import settings and choose MP3 Encoder and setting you desire (192k perhaps or even custom at 320k, although I have not tried it)
2) go to iTunes window and select the songs you need, right click and convert to MP3
3) enable "KIND" as a heading and sort by this and locate all MP3
4) craete a playlist, call it Fiat 500 and drag all MP3 songs into that
5) using a compatible iPod/iPhone do the sync and try playing that

Also worth a try on USB, but you will have to drag the .MP3s from folder level to USB

For DRM based songs you will have to create an audio CD.

Good luck and let me know how you get on.

Nick you beat me to the solution, I understand iPods / iPhones are formated for PCs by default (as the market demanded) anyway dont think that's the issue here, its iPhone 4 compatibility, the USB route will work.

I don't understand why iPhone would work for 10 minutes. Maybe Multispoke can dig further as he is good at coming up with links.

I meant to say this was just only to fix his USB drive issue and not the problem of his resetting iphone

when open itunes and view your music you can click on the column heading to sort the music by artist... by album... or by kind. kind in 'mac speak' is the file type i.e. aac, mp3, flac, wav etc

That will never happen. I'll bet you good money that the reason why Iphone's didn't work with Blue&me out of the box was licencing. Apple won't allow someone to plug an iDevice into a non iDevice without said company paying Apple a per device royalty and when you're talking about hundreds of thousands of 500's, why is Fiat going to pay an amount for each car when they can fleece consumers who are more than happy to pay ridiculous amounts to make their iDevice work.

thanks for all your advise guys!!!! sorted it now via memory stick!!! so we'll have to see how i get on! legends the lot of you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:worship:

Maybe not, but all car manufacturers are heading in one direction and its not Win lets guess which route that is... retrospectively it would be naive to think Fiat does not pay a licence fee to MS per device and do you not think by ordering Blue&Me (be it by default) royalty has not taken into account for the ridiculous amounts Fiat charge (ok its not ridiculous, quite a bargain in fact, but thought I use the word Ridiculous somewhere).

I am sure Fiat will soon issue v5.6 and allow iPhone 4s to work natively. Peace :slayer:

as far as im aware from other threads if you have a 2G,3G or 3GS blue&me works ok its just iPhone4's that dont seem to work (from cars of that year)so how can this be licensing issue. The problem more likely is there was a change in the Iphone that no update is going to fix.

You can't rule out licensing issue, iPhone has been out since June last year and i don’t think it would have taken Fiat that long to resolve, afterall they have got ios4 to work with < iphone4. Everyone move to HTC right now !!

Fiat aren't the programmers though, are they? It's Microsoft. Not best known for their consumer products. Look at the endless iterations of Windows Mobile, before it was axed and replaced by Windows Phone (which is nice in some ways, but half finished in others).
