Technical Blue and Me - Proxi Alignment Question

Thanks, I actually put some new clocks in this weekend so now have a full compliment of pixels. I think I will probably adjust mileage back up to where it should be just so it just flag any issues on car checks should I ever sell the car. Have to admit I still haven't got around to even unpacking the MES tool yet.
I have more or less picked through the full snagging list I had with the car but one last issue I have now that the dash is working is that the outside temp display is just showing dashed lines, i.e --- deg C.

I assume from the fact that the display shows this at all, that my car should indeed have a temp sensor. I understand from research that the sensor itself lives under the passenger side mirror. Underneath my mirror is just a hole where I assume the sensor should be. So does this sound like I just buy a new one, remove the mirror glass, plug in the new one and put everything back together?
Pretty sure there shouldn't be a hole there! From memory (I'm away from the car at the moment) there is a "nipple" shape in the mirror moulding and the sensor is accessed from behind the glass. I maybe misremembering of course.

Thanks. Mystery largely now solved. The mirror that was fitted to the car did indeed have just a hole, no sign of a sensor but also crucially no wiring at all for a sensor including pins being missing on the connector. I don't know the full back story, but I guess the original mirror has been damaged at some point and has been replaced with a not-quite-right one. I briefly pondered threading some cable through the cable sleeve and pinning a new sensor in but in the end I bought a used mirror from a breakers. Just fitted it now and all is working nicely.

Annoyingly, I also might now have a turbo fault, but that's one for another thread. Lucky this car was cheap!
