Hi All! My battery on my 2002 Punto 1.2 16v Speedgear, is dying! I've had the battery out of the battery compartment, but I can not see any model/type number of the battery. Halfords are trying to sell me the biggest battery they have got, for which a mortgage is required. Would any body out there know what type of battery a 2002 Punto 1.2 16v speedgear would need. Don't need a heavy duty one, just a basic battery, money is a little tight as I'm out of work. Any advice would be gratefully received. Many thanks in advance.(y)

A used Battery is around £15 -£20.

for alittle extra... you may be best to buy/Reserve one online.
(eurocarparts) £34.99 (lion Battery) they 'come with a 3 year guarantee.

(Tip if buying from ecp)>with Euro's its alway's best to 'reserve on line, and pick up instore.

there 'instore prices 'Climb. compared to online.

Slightly larger capacity, which is OK.

Further to my quest of finding a cheap battery that will do the job. I've found on eBay, Exide EA472 063/063TE 12 V Heavy Duty Car Battery, with 44Ah & 420 CCA. I was wondering if any body could tell me if this would be suitable for my 2002 Punto 1.2 Speedgear? (Non aircon).
Thanks again in advance.

All I can tell you is I had a Bosch battery in my car for not sure how many years and was dying for sure - so replaced it with this battery and had no problems since - This is for a MK2 1.2 16V Punto Sporting

Try this site they are fantastic, really. They will provide you with a battery which is not only the correct technical specification but also the correct physical size. There will also be a good warantee. Their delivery is very, very fast and the battery comes extremely safely packaged, delivered next day by courrier.

Just to add to this I have replaced the battery on my V70 Volvo and my daughters Fiat punto this year using this company. I also did some work on a friends Jaguar XJ8 cabriolet. It needed the hydraulic hood raising system given a full service. The pump is adjacent to the battery and I discovered that it wasn't properly secured in its housing. This was because, although new, it was incorrect size compared to the original - the replacement was sourced from Hafords so I had to add a tower of washers to each side of the battery bracket. Do't go too crazy for cheap on batteries, the battery is central to the performance and reliability!
