Anyone used Motoflow magnetic fuel conditioner?

Anyone used Motoflow magnetic fuel conditioner?

Now that I'm back home and have just topped-up again, here's some hard facts for you to ponder on. Total distance run between two consecutive fill-ups: 460 km (motorway and city). Price of petrol at the pump: 1.6 euro/lt
Total cost at the pump: 38 euro

They were all driving as efficiently as possible, and had already proven they were the most efficient drivers in europe who had entered the competition.

My point is you can easily influence the mpg. The only true test is if you didn't know if the device was fitted or not.

I transferred my magnets over from day 1 so I reckon I forgot all about them fairly soon after - and certainly after 4 years' driving the same car.
As for influencing mpg - well, yes. At one stage I did make a concerted effort to improve mpg and by driving it like a limo - block changing, very gentle accelleration, rolling gently to the lights to avoid braking etc etc I managed to get 50mpg but felt the additional 5mpg wasn't worth the effort - especially as it was summer & I was pouring in 2 gallons of (free) waste veg oil. It's just too much of an effort - especially when everyone else is belting past.

As promised a while ago, here are some pictures from the installation of three of those magnets on my Punto 1.2 8v.

To be fair to either side, I'm giving everything a fair trial. I've had the magnets off since signing up to fuelly (22/12/10). At the time I was adding 10 gallons fuel every 440 - 450 miles when the yellow light came on.
Initial fuelly results show I was getting an average 38mpg without the magnets.
The chronic hike in prices forced me to start adding veg oil far sooner than I would have liked - on the 6th fill (16/01/11).
Even on my third blended fill fuelly is reporting back an economy of just over 41mpg.

Maybe the magnets were having some sort of influence on the blended fuel? - bearing in mind I only ever filter my waste veg oil down to 1 micron and then add 3% petrol.
I'll keep the magnets off a few more weeks / fills just to see how the economy pans out with the blend.

Also worth noting, I'm only using Tesco diesel because I get the clubcard points, so no specialist aditives/detergents etc.

I'm not overly keen on the fuelly banner, it's giving the wrong impression.
Date Miles Litres Price MPGNotesEdit
07/02/11 450.0 49.290 £1.34 41.5
03/02/11 453.0 49.979 £1.34 41.2
27/01/11 319.0 35.201 £1.34 41.2
21/01/11 416.0 46.121 £1.34 41.0
16/01/11 32.002 £1.32- This includes a top up with 10 litres of cold-filtered waste veg oil. So, 22 litres diesel plus 10 litres wvo. 267miles - 32 litres
10/01/11 261.0 30.499 £1.32 38.9
06/01/11 276.0 32.168 £1.31 39.0
02/01/11 313.0 36.578 £1.29 38.9
29/12/10 326.0 38.263 £1.28 38.7

So while the banner is reporting back an average of 39.9mpg, my actual mpg seems to be around 41.225 - a big leap from the 38s I was getting on just diesel.
And this is just on 1 gallon veg (with 3% petrol) to 9 of diesel.
I can't wait for the temps to settle in double figures so i can go for 2 gallons of veg to 8 of diesel, interesting to see what the results are then.
Hopefully, if i see a stable reading over half a dozen fills i can then put on the magnets? I could do it fairly soon but I'd love to see the effects of extra veg oil.

I had a magnet on my Mondeo TDci - it made no difference over 30000 miles

but I'll try it on my Doblo Jtd and see how it goes. come to think..I'll probably

get one as a water softener too for me hoose!

PS I'm a chemist and the "science" seems ropey to me.

The science behind it all is indeed ropey but just one magnet for that Mondeo would not be adequate I think. At least another set of two opposing magnets might yield more tangible results. I have ordered a few cheap neodymium magnet bars off ebay - not the ones that are advertised as fuel savers - and gonna strap them on the fuel line.
At least they seem to do no harm to the engine operation anyway.

As I've been having a slight problem with the cold weather and my veg oil blend, I've decided to stick with the 1:9 ratio veg:dino for the time being and I've put the magnets back on.
Up to now I've been getting an average 38mpg neat diesel and then 41mpg 1:9 blend...

I find no difference at all with regards to dino v's veg. However, I do plan to have the car remapped this year so I've been trying other fuels as the remap will be tunned to that fuel source.

I liked the odd tankfull of BP Ultimate, excellent fuel, my car loved it, however, they all seem to be closing down. :(

V-Power was my next choice and I'm not so impressed.

So, for me a remapped bio guzzler it may well turn into. :slayer:

If it hadn't been for fuelly, I would never have realised but the increased mpg is there in plain sight.
Perhaps there is more to veg oil than we are told? After all, we do know it cleans the inside of the fuel system, getting rid of all the deposits left by diesel.
