General Anouncing the 2009 Fiat Forum Panda Adventure!

Well done so far, good luck on the way into Lithuania, I don't know what their roads are like or how the lithuanian public would react, can't wait to read up on it and see pictures, though! :D

We've been driving across Lithunia now for what seems like 3 days... It really does seem to be the most depressing/boring (we really can't decide) place on earth but thats probably after all the excitement of warsaw and sutjeska hosting skills). Sylvia has went into limping mode with lots of little faults that are causing me to treat her with kid gloves. The front strut is rattling about. Think the shock's bushes are breaking up. Also the cam shaft has suddenedly decided to get clattery at tickover which is a bit worrying when you need it to do another 5000 miles to get home. I know this is weird but you know at the minute we are right slap bang in the middle of europe. Like we are the same distance from the south of greece as we are from the arctic and we're no further north than birmingham! Hope that puts the distance of the trip and the detour to poland into some sort of prospective (btw, john wouldn't let me bring a sat nav so we are doing this the old fashioned way!) Right, better go as it'r my turn to drive again and we need to get into the old town. Later, jim

Well... we made it

Now here the nice pic of the chicken in the restaurant from tonight... When I ordered I thought it was going to be dinner but it survived the experience.

I ended up with cold cabbage, well I think it was cabbage:(

Good luck boys!!
I heard from my polish club that it was great time with you!!
Jakub

Yeah, it has been fun, well bits of it were fun, well poland was good, lol! Just crossed the border into Estonia while eating a particularly unpleasant cabbage sandwich before realising I'd left the cardboard wrapper on it... Bout 100 miles to Tallin and the ferry to finland. Thankfully we're getting 47mpg on these 'B' roads which are a lot more relaxing than the last lot of roads. I've found that panda's don't really like autobans :(
4 countries and one international body of water to cross today so better get moving...
Jim

Probably just so eager for a sandwich he didn't realise! :p I know I would be after all that travelling!

Shocked after reading the twitter that you're the only right-hand drive vehicle on board the ferry, you'd think there'd be at least 2 or 3. :p Would I be correct in estimating you're around half way into the journey now, over half way, even?

I think estonia is too far for most drivers. Your at 1600 - 2000 odd miles from the uk so would be much cheaper to fly drive to this part of the world if you were coming this way... We would be roughly about a third of the way (from the uk and back again) so there is a huge way to go yet. Finland and norway are very long countries and we would only be as close to the arctic as if we were in the north of scotland, lol
We're not even in scandinavia yet! I'll post a pic from my sat nav to twitter after this...
Jim

We went to Tallinn for a long weekend a couple of years ago, the flight is about £300 each return. Don't know how much car hire is there, but most things there were pretty cheap, certainly compared to Scandinavia. Jim, I hope you've been saving your pennies if you want to buy a beer in Finland! The Finns go on booze cruises to Estonia as alcohol is a fraction of the price.

Shame you weren't stopping in Tallinn, I could have recommended a good bar to you. We ordered two Long Island Iced Teas - they arrived in pint glasses :D. And they only cost a fiver each - we got hammered that evening..

Cheers,

Plug

Thanks for the tip but in Helsinki now but we realized the booze problem so we stuffed some more into an already over loaded Sylvia...

Little update for you from John. It was edited on my phone so it's a bit rough

SatNav position and tonights abode for panda and panda crew ;)

Great vid there, I wanted to see what it was like inside the ferry, I was hoping you'd of filmed driving in and parking up! :) Oh well!
How long did you have to wait in that long queue?

And did I hear you say there was a horse in the back of that Citroen Berlingo? hahaha :D

I thought John meant the woman in the back seat but there was an actual horse in that Belingo thing!

BTW, Sylvia has found a friend parked outside the hotel... He's just been imported from Italy (he's on temp plates and has his italian tax disc on the screen)

Not sure what's going on tonight but I've told her to take it easy as we've 460 miles to do tomorrow and we're going to hit the snow belt before the end of the day!

Liking that Panda van, I'm sure someone on here's got one of those, too!

Haha, can't believe it really was a horse, fancy carrying that in a Berlingo, back home you'd be pulled over haha! :ROFLMAO:

Keep up the good work and v-logs / video diaries and photos and twitters! :p Nows where it starts to get colder, right? Should be intriguing.

Todays vid... (it's a bit slow but it gets funny towards the end when the pick n mix comes out)

In Oulu tonight in the Radisson beside the Herring factory. Got to get up at the scratch of dawn to have some pics taken for the Hotel webside, the manager is well into the whole panda thing;)

Did 360 miles today and it's got very cold! The rivers and sea are frozen over most places! Had my first Reindeer for dinner tonight (in a chinese of all places!) which was nice.. Ok I know you can get it in Tescos but hay we're in the wilds out here, it feels like we're on a wing and a prayer!

Tomorrow is 440 Miles to Norway and we'll cross into the arctic before leaving Finland. John says that there is no were that the snow is more than one metre at the moment (??:eek:)
