Technical Alternator + starter motor questions

The plastic cover is on the battery positive

The voltage to the alternator and to the big starter bolt should always be 12V, the starter relay is in the starter I think one of the real mechanice should confirm...

I'm no help as I get through a box of labels when I take electrics apart...

And I'mm of line in Scotland rest of week

But both of the solenoid and the starter motor (the big black cable), both having a constant 12v even when the ignition is at off.

Another weird thing is, when the battery is connected the voltage drops from 12v to less than 2v!

It just seems there is some sort of short circuit going on here!

Thanks

I'm back, sorry no web access in Scotland, been to Moray Firth and back.

If the starter has 12v on both connectors when you connect the big stud to the battery the relay in the starter motor has welded shut.

You need a motor refurb or to rebuild it yourself, but there may be a lot of damage.

Ah cheers pepo, thinks fingers got a second hand starter.

One problem down, right even with the starter unplugged, still none of the electrics works (head lights, hzards etc etc)

What could that be :D?

Thanks
