So I ordered my gorgeous Fiat 500 on 16th May and after almost 16 long weeks of waiting, it's finally at the dealership! It won't be ready for collection until 1st September due the new registration which is a bummer as I'm on my honeymoon, goddammit! Hopefully I'll be collecting my baby on 8th September and will be finally able to join all of you other Fiat 500 owners with a gleaming smile on my face!

16 weeks!!!!!!! blimey. Did the dealers sit on it for 6 weeks before ordering or something? Mine was ordered at the end of June and I'm getting it next week too.

Congratulations though - are you more excited about your wedding/honeymoon or your new car? :D

Not all cars take the same time to produce and not all cars go into the same place in the queue if they're ordered on the same day.

They all take the same time to produce - this is the basic principle of mass production, but which day they actually go through the factory is entirely dependant on the scheduling for parts availability (Interscope, paint as examples) etc.

Mine was ordered in mid May, but the date stamp on the shell (there's a date code on the o/s front chassis beam) indicates the body was actually made in early june. Of course, BIW (body in white) production is generally done in batches, so a buffer stock will be kept before being fed through to final painting and then assembly. I have it on fairly good authority that the 500 takes a week to go through the factory and be parked up outside once the 'slot' is scheduled to go through.

Sorry, produce was the wrong word to use. Perhaps I should have said to deliver. :)
