That is very similar to ours if you multiply up. You would get 270 miles for three quarters used on the gauge.

Thank you. Huge relief. I'm clueless with all this and my partner complicates it when he's explaining to me so this has been helpful to compare to someone with same car and engine size. He tried to explain it comparing my 1.2 500 with his 2 litre Honda Civic type r. Two completely different cars.

The gauge markings are not linear so not really representative of what's going on in reality, you have a trip so reset it and monitor over an entire tank, results will be slightly optimistic by a few % but indicative enough, for better accuracy you need to brim the tank and reset trip and then do it again when filling up and do the math!

Ugh just got into car tonight and it's gone on to half a tank, so two full quarters gone already and only 135 miles since I filled up?

See how much it costs at next refill and put that up and then we compare, ours is around £30 for 280 miles, or just under 11p per mile.

Thank you. Will do.

Also, is it better to get fuel from a garage like the Gulf or Jet (don't know where everyone has) as opposed to Tesco and Morrisons petrol stations? I notice supermarkets are cheaper but not sure if their fuel is poorer quality?

Is that this? I downloaded an app the other week but couldn't understand it.

First time I've seen the mobile app. I only ever use the desktop version myself, but yes, essentially, I guess the mobile app will do pretty much the same thing. You just need to ensure that each and every time you fill up, you ask for the VAT receipt which will give you all the information you require for inputting data into fuelly. Also, don't forget to have a pen handy so that you can write your odometer reading down at each and every fill up. We've been using fuelly for the last 3 years or so and it seems pretty accurate to me, plus if you're rubbish at maths like me, then you really don't have to do much except input a bit of data.

As for fuel, well there's loads of arguments for and against different fuels. Personally, I only ever use Shell Nitro fuels now in both of our cars. I used to use bog standard supermarket fuel, but certainly in my diesel car, when I switched to Shell, the car does perform better, there's less sooting and the car doesn't run sluggish like it did on supermarket fuel. Upshot is, I do get more mpg from Shell than I did from supermarket fuel and that offsets the additional cost of the fuel itself. I have a Shell drivers club card, so I get quarterly discount vouchers too. When we had our 500's, I used Shell Nitro unleaded exclusively, and we never had any issues and mpg seemed to be pretty good.

Thanks all.

Since Sunday when it dropped to half a tank on my gauge, it's now this morning dropped another half segment of a quarter... have only done 48 miles since Sunday, was probably at about 40 when it dropped... so that's looking like 80 a quarter... I hate cars!!

itcwas 28.49 litres I put in on the 9th Dec so actually just off full tank x

My range was 152 miles when I got into my car after work, drove less than a mile to Tesco, nipped in and when I came back and started my car, range was still on and it had dropped to 114 miles. Drove another maybe half mile home from Tesco and it's dropped to 99. I'm becoming obsessed but how have I lost 53 miles just from switching off my car?

I'm becoming obsessed

Just a tad!

The range indicator will always vary depending on current driving conditions , so if you're stuck in traffic it may say 80 miles left under those conditions but will rise rapidly to say 150 miles when back on the open road so it represents estimated range under CURRENT conditions

but how could it drop from 152 when I switched my car off, to 114 when I switched my car back on, like the car hadn't been on or driven for it to drop?

With much respect, I think you are obsessing far too much about the range. Mercky's post pretty much sums it up

If I remember rightly, I think the most mpg we ever got out of a full tank of fuel on our old 1.2 doing mixed driving, was about 342 miles tops.

I'm a huge worrier and I get anxiety over tiny things so any slight issue stresses me out. Would the car switching on and off cause it to use this much, or if I go out later and drive on a 60 will they come back? So far I've only had 183 mile. X
