Hi all.

I attached a photo of my ECU showing s/n dates etc. I've got a 2022 fiat Ducato based motorhome. In true form the 2year warranty has come to an end & the dreaded warning light is showing in amber on the dash.

I know there's a lot about this on the net but I've got a couple of things I can't find so her goes.

My van is a 290 MCA model & I understand that mulitiscan software currently will not read this models airbag ECU? So I can't get the codes.

Will the ECU run a diagnostic self check every time the van is started? or are these fault lights "Latching" and just stay on. My thinking is will it run the check & clear any errors its self which are just software related?

What components does it look at? I'm thinking of a list of things I can check for early life failure or just rubbish connections.

Are there any successful work around or fixes (Don't get me wrong on this one) its more like connection replacements or upgrades.

I know a lot of posts just say send the ECU away to be cleared Or reload the software. But I'd also like to see if anything else is triggering this fault.

Where else better to look than on this forum full of people with their experience & knowledge.

Thank you.

I would ask Fiat, they may well do a "good will" replacement.

If it's any consolation, I've just replaced one for a friend (2017 van), the local dealer has sold 52 airbag modules so far this year!

Abit of an update:-
I've taken the van for a run out. About 300 miles each way. On the first leg. The airbag light stayed out. But came on after about 120 miles while driving.

I guess it must reset after a self test the next day.

On the return leg again everything is fine. Then stopped at service. Still all fine.
Then came to restart the van & without moving the airbag light came on & stayed on all the way home.

The next morning yes you guessed it, it's off while running on the drive.

I can't use multi scan. As it won't yet read my airbag. Van is an 2021 290 MCA.

I've also had a chat to the guys at Collision Data & they haven't seen the type of ECU before. Which makes me think fiat may have changed suppliers or tried to do something about the old issues.

I've cleaned all the connectors on the seats & at the moment the light is off for now.

I'm in the process of tacking down a scanner that can read my van systems. As I think I'm going to need one in the future anyway for sorting other things & maybe this airbag issue.

I can't believe newer vans & cars have so many issues grrrr

Somewhere you may find a bulletin from Peugeot for AirBag issues. Their suggestion is to add an additional earth bonding lead from one of the AIrBag module mounting bolts to the chassis.

Thanks for your reply CheeseMonster.

Yes I've seen that about the extra earth strap a couple of weeks ago & I've taken an earth from the battery terminal connector directly to the airbag ECU body. But sadly it's not made any noticeable difference.
