Hello All, I really need your help!

2015 3.0 euro V (I believe as that's the fusebox I can see)

I've got an airbag error, but not the usual ones. Mine is B0134-64 Plausibility error.

In MAR the airbag lights, does its self checks and then goes out. About 4 ish seconds later, there is a beep and the airbag light comes on, with a message to check the passenger airbag.

Using MES, I read the B0134-64 error code.
Using eLearn, DTC I have the following checks

Screenshot_20250224_140104_Chrome.jpg

Using MES I can operate the airbag light on the dashboard, so moved on to check number 2.

I disconnected the Hab and starter batteries (after following procedures to allow for dissipation etc) and disconnected the airbag ECU connectors.
Below is the wiring diagram

I thought that the best place to start was the CAN lines (pins 7 and 8 of Connector A)
The wire colours for these CAN wires does not tally with the diagram above. Mine are white and blue. All others on Connector A do.

There is also a wire from pin 9 but this is not shown in the wiring diagram

Have I got the correct diagram?

I'm a complete novice with this depth of Electrickery and your help would be gratefully received to be able to sort out this fault.

Hello,

Usually the 2015 is already the post 2014 lifting model coded x290. However the VIN still starts with ZFA250...

The diagram might be incorrect then :( I'm thinking how to check it which version you've got, but have no idea at the moment.

BCM part number perhaps?

I should have said that mine is an A class Hymer registered in 2015.
You are correct in that the VIN is a 250, but does have the 290 fusebox. I assumed the wiring would be Euro V as it's not Euro VI

I've not looked at the BCM yet as I've got to dismantle a side trim to get the lower dash panel off and then see if there are shear bolts or not.

Are you thinking that I should look at the x290 wiring diagrams?
The fusebox layout is the euro V. Maybe the x290 is the same!

Other weird stuff is that when using MES it has a Body Computer Marelli (290)

The actual error is:
Airbag / NAB/ORC (Airbag/Occupant Restraint Module)
TRW Airbag (Ep - PROXI)
ISO Code: EA 07 B9 8A 89
Hardware number: 229276 - Ver: 01Software number: FD001202 - Ver: 000C
Errors found:B0134-64 - Airbag control light - Signal/message plausibility

Hmm, the 3.0 diesel is max EUR5 as far as I remember.

However the x250 and x290 wiring might differ. Don't have to, but might.

I'm in the process of comparing the wiring and descriptions to try to install the cruise control according to the x290 EUR5 Natural Power diagram on my x250 EUR5 Natural Power...

I was trying to find the B0134-64 error on the DC diagnostic part of eLearn, but it does not appear on the x290 nor the x250 docs :( I went through all modules and all engines...

Have you got only front airbags?

Attached the x290 3,0 diesel EUR5 docs on the front airbags and earth / power supply docs. Might be worth checking these two, too.

Thank you so much for working hard on this for me. English is your 3rd language! I would never have known!

Yes the 3.0 180 is Euro 5 and then stopped being used.

So the airbag wiring appears to be as shown in your attachment. The wire colours match what I saw today and the wire at pin 9 of Connector A exists.

The B0143 error (minus the suffix) exists in this version of eLearn here

I've tried to use this other version of eLearn, but it automatically downloads the images making it quite awkward to use. For instance selecting the "airbags wiring diagram" just returns a blank page and downloads the image as a file with the filetype as image. If I print select the print electrical system option I download just the text! Any ideas?

Also, is there a "search" function on the later eLearn that I've not discovered?

Back to the problem
I removed a tiny piece of insulation from the CAN wires (pins 7 and 8) and checked for continuity between the wire and the connector (checking for a broken wire) but found them both to be OK.
Would my next step be to pull out the BCM and check for full continuity between it and the airbag ECU and also continuity between the airbag ECU and the instrument cluster?

Whilst writing this I have just noticed other significant differences in that there is another fuse in this system. F37 which is in the deactivate the passenger airbag circuit. Surely it can't be this!

Too late to check now!

I don't know if you've seen this thread:

It contains information how it is possible to get those eLearn documents in one piece. I assume that there might be other ways to do it, but didn't bother looking for them, as the one I use is not that time consuming. Yes, it takes some actions and of course I'd prefer to click once the 'download' button, but can't complain :) The available information is very valuable and helpful, not only for me, but others, too. Another problem of the site is it has accessibility issues. And as is not fully 'FIAT official', nobody knows how long it's going to be online.

The only 'search' I've found are my eyes and my right hand scrolling / clicking on the mouse buttons :( Pity. Of course CTRL+F work, but it will search only on the active site.

I was only hoping that my eyes were deceiving me and that there was the search facility like the older version :)

Thanks for the headsup for the eLearn post. I had seen it a while ago (but as I believed that it wasn't relevant I didn't read it thoroughly). I'll have a look this morning.

My issue s that when I click on here for example, I don't see the whole page with text, tables and images. Do you see the same as I do?

Yes, same everywhere.

When you open through the browser, it downloads all the images to the download folder as .image files. I'm renaming them to svg. Then converting them in Inkscape to emf files.

Then I'm opening the PrintAll file in a PDF editor, inserting the emf pictures in the PDF and saving.

The advantage is the files are vector graphics, so they are scallable without losing the details! :)

I wish that I was younger and more able to keep up with all this tech 😭

Thanks for the explanation though.

Ot wasn't F37 (this also is a feed for the instrument cluster.

Time to see an auto electrician i think

I can see references to this error on other Fiat vehicles, possibly associated with the (physical) passenger airbag switch. On your vehicle, it is more likely switched via the dah menu. It's a very long shot but have you tried disabling the passenger airbag to see if it makes any difference?

Really appreciate your help.

I tried to disable and enable the passenger airbag via the dash module thing. It lets you do it, but the light remains on.

Next step is to remove the instrument cluster and check continuity between the passenger airbag disable led and the airbag ecu. That's hoping I can find the module for it!

@the green vanper Just a quick message to say thanks for the explanation of how to create the pdf's using Inkscape and renaming as svg extensions. Like you say, it's not quick, but at least it gets a record. Ive started to create a few.

Instrument cluster is off, and also airbag ecu disconnected. I now know where the passenger airbag light control panel is. I'll buzz what I can from what I have disconnected. If no joy I'll remove the body control module (more complicated as an A Class) and see what I find.

Quick question if I may... On the test routine it states the connect to examiner (in our case MES) and check the operation of the airbag light. When I did this and attempted to switch the light off it did, but then flashes continuously. As the fault is still present, would the check system try to turn the light back on and hence the flashing or is the instrument cluster faulty?

A bit of an update - feel free to join in!

Below is the wiring diagram (for my 2015 3.0 x250 with an x290 body computer) showing the wires which I've checked for continuity. I'm slowly getting used to the camper and how things come apart!

So of the wiring that I've checked all is OK.

The B0134-64 error checking procedure is below. So is it most likely that I need the instrument panel (cluster) repairing?

I have no idea :(

I'd also check the if the modules are correctly grounded and powered:

E050
M001
M060
H090

However you'll need to dig in the docs how to do it properly and safely.

re flashing airbag light I've no idea either! I can only assume that flashing doesn't mean a fully functioning one...

E050 - instrument cluster check out OK
M001 - body computer OK
M060 - Airbag ECU checked and also added an extra earth from the body of the ecu to the chassis
H090 - central control panel doesn't have an earth and has power.
I measured the resistance across pins 1 and 6. It was open circuit one way (due to diodes and LED?). The other direction measured 2.48 M ohms

Going to refit everything now and see if I've disturbed/cleaned a connection. If no better, then sending the instrument cluster for repair...

edit - sending for repair! Finger crossed

Update.
I couldn't clear the error code so sent the ecu to Northern Autotech who virginised the unit. I refitted and proxy aligned. Now no error codes.

I'm pretty sure that the error code appeared when I disabled the passenger airbag using the driver control panel.

Having checked all the wiring it's got to be the instrument cluster. They are on back order from fiat at £1200 + vat so for now I'm just not going to meddle with it!
