Hello!

Wondered if I can ask you a few questions please about the plastic mouldings on the doors of your Panda Super?

*Do they flap around, or are they firmly stuck?
*Does water get behind them?
*Are they only fixed with sticky pads?

I may need to get some soon, but I wanted to ask these questions first.

Thank-you :)
Paul.

No they are not stuck on and yes, dirt can get under them, though in my experience this is not a great problem. They are a reasonable tight fit and should be allowed to flap around.

The trims on the 1000S and some of the 4X4s are held on the same way, they slide onto plastic buttons set in the bodywork. It is important to remove them in the right order to avoid damage.

FIRST, carefully prize off the "Super" badge from the rear trim. This does have a self adhesive backing and due to plastic age hardening the locating pins tend to break. Under the bagde, you will find a securing stud. Use a small punch to knock out the centre pin, which will fall into the box section and be lost. Use a suitably sized self tapping screw when refitting to replace the lost pin.

Now punch out the centre pins of the three studs at the rear of the trim, through the wheel arch. These will drop to the floor and can be recovered. Now gently tap the trim rearwards to release it from its buttons and catch the trim before it clatters to the floor.

Now you will see two of the buttons mentioned. There are five of these on the door and two on the forward wing.

Remove the door trim with the door closed. The door trims slide off forwards and the forward end of the trim has to slide over the rear edge of the front wing trim before it will release, so have an assistant hook fingers under the end of the door trim to guide it over the front wing trim. Tap the door trim gently forward ( I use a piece of wood between trim and hammer ) and again, be ready to catch the trim as it releases.

Now gently tap the forward wing trim to the rear to release it from its two buttons.

Reverse this proceedure to refit the trims.
Rgds, Pete.

Thank-you Pete :) That is really useful, thanks!

It was an idea I'd had for my 900 Dance. I know that they weren't standard on this model, but I have my reasons...

I should soon be getting the small area of rust on my passenger door cut out and replaced with new metal. The garage said that they would spray the bottom of the door, but couldn't exactly match the paint because mine is 12 years old, although they promised to try.

So before any work is done, I thought I'd try and locate the plastic mouldings so that after the area has been painted, I can fix these and hopefully having a plastic strip will take attention away from a slightly different shade of red.

It was just a thought anyway. First thing though is to find a 'Super', or an 'S' in a scrapyard.

Have just noticed a typo in my post. End of first para should read, "should NOT be allowed to flap around"
Sorry, Pete.

Hi Paul,

Pete's beaten me to it with a much better answer than I could have given you! I can confirm the mouldings are a very tight fit, but I've never needed to take them off, so I couldn't say how much dirt gets trapped behind- not much if any I would imagine though.

The previous owner had treated the rust on the doors below the moulding, and yes, the big expanse of black plastic does a fantastic job of disguising the newer Orange-Red on the bottom from the very orangy old Orange-Red on the top!

Oh, and my little Panda's suspected water pump problem was actually the timing belt tensioner pulley on its last legs- new belt, new pulley, had the timing set up, and we're back in business!

Thanks for your reply Helen :)

But the garage that repaired my doors yesterday did a fantastic job and have matched the paint really well, so I won't be adding the plastic mouldings.

Thanks again! ;)
