I had my airbag module repaired twice by Crashdata and it failed again so this time I bought a new module from Neo Bros on eBay. My brother spent a morning trying to pair it using AlfaOBD software and his OBD dongles with no success. The software seemed to recognise the new module but wouldn't do the proxi align.
I contacted the eBay seller, Neo Bros, for advice. This is their reply:
"The previous units which you have purchased from crash date have been adapted by them so that the units can be easily added to vehicles. As you have purchased a brand new original ‘virgin’ unit from us, this cannot be configured with aftermarket software. This can only be configured with main dealer software. Alternatively, you may be able to have it reconfigured by a mobile air bag specialist however you will need to confirm this with them."
I am guessing that the Fiat main dealer will be expensive so will persevere finding a home fix for now!
I contacted Gendan who are the UK distrbutor of Multiecuscan to ask if their software would do the proxi align and got a quick reply asking if the new ECU had exactly the same part numbe as the old one - which it doesn't. The eBay seller Neo Bros checked my VIN and said their module was compatible This makes me think that I have fallen into a bit of a trap!
Has any other owner bought a so-called compatible airbag module with a different part number and been able to do the proxi align please? If so, can you please share how you managed it?
Many thanks
Brian

If you have the part number of your old unit I would speak to Coastal Motorhomes. Fiat have modified the units in recent years, so a new identically configured unit may have a different part number, but I understand that Coastal can advise which are and aren't suitable per your VIN. If you have purchased a unit that is pre-configured for a different SRS system set-up to your van, that is probably why the proxi-align fails. Common differences are the number of seats/pre-tensioners, frontal airbags, side airbags, occupancy sensors which may or may not be present, etc.

I can confirm MultiECUscan can proxi align them, I did mine a few months back.

There are a number of guides on here how to do it. Just make sure you backup the current configuration. Photo of mine being done below. I also added an extra earth strap as some suggested that was part of the problem.

Some forum members can help out, check the MES register. I am based in West Midlands which doesn’t really help you.

As suggested above though, I would ring Coastal and check, they sell a lot of these. :-(

The new ECU I bought from Neo Bros on eBay has a part number (46858203) which is different from my original which was 01375110080. The advert lists the ECU as compatible with mine. They asked for my VIN number and replied that the module was OK for my van.

The seller’s eBay advert included this wording:

I can only reiterate the advice ring coastal motorhomes. Newly designed/ manufactured modules (post 2020) will have newer numbers than available on eper. Multiecuscan is capable of proxi align, unfortunately i had to replace mine in the last month (bought from coastal mh).
This inludes link to backup procedure

The forum ePER does not list the 46858203 part.
The OP's p/n has been replaced/superseded, some time around the early 20's. The forum copy of ePer predates that.

Coastal Motorhomes also list the OP's original and new p/n as compatible (see the compatibility list on their listing here:)

Whatever the issue is it's unlikely to be the p/n (and fitting the replacement p/n is a better option, given the failure rate of the originals).

Of course. The only problem is the part with the new part number received from a seller doesn't want to work on the van.
The forum ePER dates from 2014 / 2015, all other sites widely available on the internet have the same database, so it's not possible to confirm the compatibility.

And yes the part might have been replaced afterwards by FIAT due to different reasons, for example bad design.

So we can only trust the seller and other internet listings. Unless someone has access to FIAT / Citroen / Peugeot / RAM computer system and might confirm. Possibly Opel / Vauxhall / Toyota, too.

I contacted Coastal as suggested as they are selling the exact same module. They pointed me towards Multiecuscan which i bought.
We are struggling and have not been able to do the proxi align with both AlfaOBD and MES sadly.

If you have tried to follow the guide i pointed to, and it fails then next stage is to try 3 times. A previous thread had someone needing to try 3 times, maybe a proxi align with no airbag ecu fitted the once completed add ecu and proxi again. If not successfull after all this return to ebay seller as not working.

Thank you again.
Yes, we followed the instructions carefully and ran them many more than 3 times without success. The software sees and reads details of the airbag ECU but will not complete the proxi alignment.
We were without power and Wifi today whilst the electricity board fitted new poles and cables outside so have had some challenges.
My brother is sending off screenshots etc to the MES forum he is on and hope we get some advice.
PS I even fitted an earth lead as I saw recommended elsewhere!

I'm afraid you are in a world of pain and If not successfull after all this you need to discuss with ebay seller as not working.
If you handled the ecu correctly and didnt connect it live it should have worked. Check for errors and clear before trying again

Post in thread 'Airbag light' https://www.fiatforum.com/threads/airbag-light.497037/post-4660346

I managed mine and a friends using MES, I will say that both vehicles gave confusing messages but completed the proxi alignment.

Thank you - that is encouraging.
It certainly indicates that MES should have sorted my new ECU out - all very puzzling!
My brother has posted some screen shots etc on the MES forum so will see what feedback he gets from there
I really appreciate the responses I have had in this thread guys (y):)

@Brindles is it just the EOL Failed message that concerns you. I had the same when I ran a proxi-align on the body computer following a config change some years ago, and ISTR that I contacted Yani (MES author) directly and he said that on its own it was of no concern.

After you have run the proxi align, are you turning off the ignition, removing the key and the VCI dongle from the OBD port, and shutting the doors for at least 60 seconds?

If you then turn on the ignition again, does the odometer flash or is it normal (steady, no flashing)?

What happens if you then reconnect and run a DTC Scan with MES. Does it recognise and report the presence of the SRS/Airbag ECU?

If so, can you connect to it directly and scan/clear errors or view parameters.

If the answer to the above is yes, then the procedure has completed successfully despite the EOL failed message.

I must admit that I have no experience of cable swapping to complete scans or programming with MES, as I use it with the CanTieCar multiplexer, which is really straightforward.

Similarly with AlfaOBD, now that it supports the VGate vLinker MS VCI, it can also be run in multiplexed mode without the need to use and swap adapter cables.

COMPLETED

So the Airbag unit has been identified. Does the Yellow cable read the other modules. I have 2, the original from Gendan works perfectly and one from a cheap ebay set that initialy didnt make all contacts.
Is the problem the cable connections or other issue.

I had an issue with mine when proxi aligning in that it threw up loads of errors, told me wrong instrument cluster was fitted and all sorts.

I just deleted all codes, restarted and voila, it didn’t come back and hasn’t since.
