Hi
I have a 2011 Burstner Aviano motorhome on the Fiat Ducato chassis, it’s the 130bhp, 2.5ltr diesel, manual transmission. I’m trying to find the location of the dipstick for the engine oil and the cap to top oil up if required. Van didn’t have a Fiat manual and Burstner manual doesn’t include maintenance section.

I can’t get a definitive answer, some say there isn’t a dipstick, some say there’s a dash indicator (there isn’t). I’m not sure if I’m just missing it, if it’s hidden away somewhere that I need to remove things to access it, if it indeed doesn’t have one?

If you know and have a photo showing it that would be great. Thanks

Hello,

If it really is a 2010/2011 vehicle it can't have the 2,5 diesel engine. The Sofim 2.5 diesels were discontinued in 2006. I don't believe Bürstner kept an old chassis for 5 years.

The diesel engines available in the x250 (post 2006) / x290 (post 2014) models were / are: 2.0, 2.2, 2.3, 3.0.

The 130 BHP engine was the Iveco Multijet 2.3 liter.

The dipstick was abandoned by FIAT only sometime around 2018/2020 I suppose, so older models definitely have it.

You can find the owner's handbook in the download section of the forum. Choose one closest to the year of your vehicle. You will find there the needed information about the dipstick location, oil type etc.

There is also a factory workshop manual for the x250 model available. Plus some other technical documentation, too.

Hi
Thanks for the reply. It is indeed 2.3ltr fat fingers small keys. I’ll try again to look for manual but the one I downloaded didn’t correspond with my engine bay set up so guessing I had the wrong one!!

A facelifting with some major modifications was conducted by FIAT in 2011.

I assume if you say 2010/2011 you mean the chassis was produced in 2010. So most probably you have the pre-lifing version.

The closest one is the owner's manual from end of 2008.

The dipstick location is on page 197 of the PDF file:

In the post-lifting model the dipstick remained in the same place. The handbook is from 2013.

I assume FIAT used the same diagram for both.

The engine bay might be a little bit different in your case (more / less spacious, with better / worse access), but Bürstner has not changed the dipstick location.

What FIAT supplied to Bürstner looked more or less like the right hand side on the photo:

The fluid reservoirs marked 1, 2 and 3 on the handbook are clearly visible in the same place.

On the 130 engine the oil filler is on top of the engine with an oil can motif and the red dip stick is in front of it.

I still think the dipstick on mine is the wrong one.

It is in exactly the place described. As you look in, left hand side at the front.

Mine has only ever had 5 litres of oil at change and never the 5.9 quoted. Comes halfway up the dipstick levels after the filter is full.

Weird.
