has anyone first hand experience of blanking the egr valve using one of the blanking plates with a small hole in? Does it have to be fitted next to the egr valve or can it be anywhere between the valve and the throttle body? This is the vacuum operated egr on this model, do you need to do anything else after fitting?

The query is purely concerning the practical fitting and benefits. Thanks.

I don't know anybody who has blanked off the EGR on the Iveco 2.3 engine because it doesn't seem to get blocked up like the Ford Puma 2.2 Plenty of people blocked off the EGR on the Puma engine - you can get the plate and fitting instructions for about £5 on ebay. Quick easy job - just slacken off a couple of bolts in a pipe flange joint as shown in the instructions supplied, slide the plate in, and tighten the bolts. If you are lucky it won't turn on the engine management light.
But you asked about benefits. With the Puma the benefit is you don't have to keep changing the EGR valve. Blanking off the EGR doesn't appear to offer any improvement in fuel consumption or performance. So if it ain't broke don't mend it.
