If you remove the input vacuum pipe from the egr control valve and blank it off does this have the same effect of blanking the egr? The valve would still be connected to the electrical control system but the valve would not operate the vacuum egr valve. Are there any practical downsides to doing this?

Tried the above and on tickover there was a click and engine started hunting. Has anyone blanked off the egr on this engine, 2.3 2009 with the vacuum operated egr? If so where does the blanking plate go and do you need to do anything else?

I have only seen it done with the 2.2 Puma engine
But lots of places selling plates for the 2.3 eg: link
You need a stainless steel plate as aluminium might melt, mild steel might rust, in either case disintegrating and blowing bits of metal into the engine!!
And one with the bolt holes open on one side like in the link so you can just slacken the 2 bolts off and slide the plate in without having to take the pipes apart which you may not have room to do. The one in the link includes 2 gaskets but others don't have gaskets and I think you don't need them.
If you are lucky it won't bring on the emissions light (MOT fail) - if it does - plan B is a small hole in the centre of the plate to just let a bit through. Some plates already have a small hole in. Which may or may not put the emissions light out. Perhaps the only way is to try it.
