Took my car into the garage because the drivers side front seat belt was jammed. It works intermittently so i assumed it was something and nothing. Nearly fell over when he quoted my £370!!! Says the inertia is a sealed unit and therfore cannot be opened and stripped down. £266 for the part + VAT and fitting = a wopping £370!

Any advice on were i can find a cheaper part? If its possible to fit yourself etc. Anybody had this go on their 2006 grande punto before?

Might be able to find one from a smashed punto but would need to be carefull that the pyrotechnic charge hadn't already been triggered. Probably need to take all the trim off the b pillar to change it. Leave the battery disconnected for a while before touching the wiring but removing the part its self should just be a case of un-doing a single bolt. Be sure to locktite and torque the bolt on installation of the new part.

Just a thought, someone might be able to say for sure but I'd assume that if the airbags are not triggered in the donner car then that's a good indication that the belt has not fired. someone might also know if a fired pretensioner triggers a warning light?

Need to get a replacement from a scrappy, not a car with front impact damage though, or side!

Need to disconnect battery for 30min before you change it, about 30min - hours DIY job (y)

If its a 3 door bargain on about 3-5 hours at depending on diy level.....

why you ask,,,,,,

well the reel lives here (lower right of the pic,,,,

probably the reason for the labour charge ,..... unless you can get enough room by flexing the trim out the way but i doubt it
