Hello !

forum newbie here with a little collant mystery

Whilst investigating a coolant oss on my 1.9 non turbo I noticed thst one of the hoses from the expansion tank has been blanked off. It is one of two upper hoses. The remaining hose goes to the top of the radiator and I assume the missing one used to run to the top of the engine.. I can't seem to find where it used to connect to though. There doesn't seem to be an obvious connection point.

I am also assuming that withoiut it I could be suffereing from airlocks etc...

Any help very much appreciated

Thsnks in advance

Chris

Some vehicles just have a single hose to the expansion tank. That works fine but it takes some time before all air reaches the expansion tank after a coolant change. Most modern vehicles have 2 or even 3 hoses, coolant actually circulates through the tank and antifreeze can be added in the tank and is quickly distributed throughout the system.
Maybe the tank in your vehicle was leaking and has been replaced with a later model.

Thanks for the reply

The tank and blanked off hose are definately original and the hose is blanked very close to the engine.. I guess I hoped that someone with a similar year 1.9 would be able to have a quick look at thiers and give me a pointer to where the hose connects ...

I might take a trip to a breakers :)

Chris
