Have just joined the site so hope i am posting correctly? My Ducato seems to be using the water from the expansion vessel. She does not over heat but i have not done a long journey in her approx 70 /80mls and the tank needs a fill.
Am planning a journey to Spain at the end of FEB and do not want to break down out there!! There is no sign of water leaking and there is no oil in the tank, and i do not have frothing in the oil filler cap. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Ricky

Sorry Pug i do not know the answer to that i have not felt them!! What would that mean if they were?

Regards,

The metal pipe across the top of the engine on the 2.8 is prone to cracking at the brackets

Our 2005 2.8jtd needed a little drink after a run when we first had it in 2011, no other cooling issues, a smell of hot leaking coolant was present on return home. Underneath there were dry signs of a leak at the bottom of the engine mounting behind the sump. Turned out to be a hose connection to the heater box, looked like it had been badly fitted from new as it had the crimped connector to secure the pipe. Just trimmed the hose back and fitted a worm drive clip......Cured:slayer:
Worth a look.

do the obvious checks, ;)
is it pink coolont - or blue.. blue tends to leave white FURRY deposits:yuck:

if nothing obvious ..do a pressure check.., no guarantee it's not a dodgy pressure cap letting it go:rolleyes:

if you can squeeze them easily when cold, then its a leak somewhere,if they are hard and under pressure, normally followed by a hiss on removing the coolant cap, head gasket has failed or worse head or block has gone

I had a 2.8 JTD for 5 years and it always chucked a bit of water out of the header tank. It did it in the first few miles but then never used a drop more after the initial loss.

I never found out why and just got used to it doing this. There was always a trace of fluid in the header, that is why I knew that it only lost a little bit.

If yours is the same, I would not worry about it.

why not mark it befor you fill up and see if it drops to the same level
i done the same so i look at the mark each time i check befor a run if not drop i leave it
