Hi. I've got a Nov 2005 2.2JTD - just done 78,000km and I bought it new. The car's been serviced by Fiat and I live in Germany.
Yesterday the Engine Control System warning light came on, accompanied with a substantial loss of power. I completed my journey (100km) but kept my speed to 100kph.
This morning the warning light was out, and engine power seemed normal. However driving home on the motorway (350km) power seemed less that normal though not as bad as yesterday, when the warning light was lit.
About 5km from home I had a text warning that said something like: "The particle filter may be blocked" - the warning light was still off.
Also, and I dunno if this is related, the on-board navigation system has recently been giving problems. For example, the last few days the display has occasionally been very faint, and this morning is refused to complete the trip calculation?
Clearly I will be taking it to the nearest Fiat service tomorrow, but any info BEFORE that would be appreciated. The few experiences I've had with Fiat service have been, IMHO, unrealistically expensive.
Any suggestions?
Regards...

Sounds like your exhaust particle filter needs cleaning or replacing.
This may be related to needing a FAP fluid re-fill as well.
Do a search and there are a few posts on particle filter issues.
Basically the engine management measures the pressure difference across the particle filter in the exhaust and when the pressure difference is too great it restricts the engine power to stop damage through too much back pressure.

Thanks for that.
I've just done a fair bit of net searching and Peugeot seems to be the cheapest (here in Germany) option for the complete replacement, by a factor of 0.6.

I assume they're able to connect to the engine control system, and as it happens, my nearest Peugeot garage is a mere 2km away, whereas Fiat is 40km in Frankfurt, so it's pretty clear who I'll be visiting first ;)

Also, I'm not sure which version of filter/DAP tank I have? There apparently are 2 systems, with the earlier version good for 80,000km and the latter supposedly good for 120,000km.

Clearly I'm almost at the lesser mileage (kilometreage...?) but if I've got the later version, I'm well short of 120,000km.

Almost all my driving in on the motorway, and I do tend to drive quick - average 150kph+. Would this effect the filter's life?

Again thanks for your advice.

Best, Mike

We have a very early 2003 version and it has 90,000Km on the clock. Never had a FAP top up or any warnings but I'm expecting it soon!

OK, just now collected the Ulysse from Peugeot. They found the lower turbo pipe was leaking and replaced it - total cost 169 Euro, or around 120 quid. The part took longer than expected to arrive from Fiat - 3-4 days. Dunno if this is normal?

Car runs fine now, though I have a feeling this part SHOULD have been replaced some time back under re-call? Can't be sure.

Thanks all, Mike
