Hi all
Recently acquired the vehicle and not used the wipers yet. Switched them on; nothing. Broke out the multimeter and diagnosed a faulty motor. Removed it, stripped it down a bit and found one side brushes’ wiring had melted down and fused together. Interesting. Bought a new motor, and thought better service the linkage…that’s the likage that was seized solid!
Much WD40 and grunting later, and the linkage is hmmm ok but could be just a little better. Why take a risk? Buy a new one. LHD can be had for £60, so RHD can’t be any more expensive. Wait. NO-ONE is supplying RHD. Not listed anywhere.
Anyone know a good source of UK mk2 Ducato parts?
Also, when I had freed and reassemble the wipers, I think I found original source of the problem…in testing, I found the wiper motor would park but then continue a ‘chattering’ noise from the motor even with the switch in the off position.
After a few tries at diagnosing, my son yelled ‘smoke!’ And indeed some light smoke was coming from somewhere.
For now, until I see an auto electrician, I’ve pulled the fuse and bypassed the wiper wiring with a switch and a inline fuse. Not ideal and I’m not proud of it but the wiper circuit now has now power at least even if I move the stalk in error.
If anyone has any views or ideas feel free to express. Thanks.
