The crank looks good here. It's covered in an oil after being cleaned up. I flipped it over, so you can see where the oil was pooling. there is no noticable wear on it either. I will buy a micrometer or a new battery for my digital caliper tomo and check.

The bearings gon't look too bad either. You can see wear, but no obvious scoring, discoloration etc.

Just when you are at this stage, £40-60 on replacing all the big and little end bearing doesn't seem like much effort, and with the head im checking and refurbing...it'll have had a complete overhaul.

It's just knowing what too buy etc :S

The mike is OK, but I think you want one bigger than that!

opps, yeah, posted the wrong one. the next one up goes just large enough 25-50mm

Plastiguage is good stuff. You can't measure the bearing clearances with a mike, only diameters, etc.

Measuring crank diameter, then fitting the bearing without the crank, and measuring internally will get you close? oor is tat a silly idea?

Doh!

some great offers allanhellen and brooky!

I am HOPING if i run to machine mart first thing in the morning, pick up a micrometer (what £16 on a £500+ rebuild build ), measure the crank and bearings.....run into fiat, and see if they can make sense of what i need.

If not, goodness knows what i need too order lol, but it has to be done soon. I'm missing it too much ;) :D

I think my 1368cc is actually fated though

Cheers,

Kristian

I got 2 mic's the other day :) 0-25mm and 25-50mm.

The crank shaft is in perfect nick...no scoring, ovality, and all main and little ends are the same to 0.01mm tolerance :D There are some marks and slght pits in the bearings thoug, so they are all getting done.

So that left me with what bearings to sort

The crank shaft had a yellow dot on it, so i pressumed that meant i had the yellow bearings on the shaft. The bearing thickness seemed to corelate with this as well.

Even at the dealer with the lastest ePER, the part numbers on the main bearings didn't exist though lol :bang:

On the little ends there was a part number....which is a 1.2 8v and 1.1 8v panda part number lol...I ordered the same part rather than the 1.4 part number in standard size, as there must have been some reason

SO...i went for 1.1/1.2 8v little end bearings, a totally different part number for the main bearings.

When it came to the thrust washer and cap though, it gets even worse!!! 12 differnt cap widths and 2 different thrust washer thicknesses!!

I went for standard thickness thrust bearings, and 2 different cap widths, but if they do come seperate, i dont know how i am supopsed the measure to 0.01mm accuracy THEN get them welded it place (n)

Also the oil pump is on the way (£135 ), water pump and various other bits.

this monday i should start rebuiliding some more.

Surely someone has done bearings before and can shed some light onto the thrust situation? They are the same as at least the sei mpi stuff.

Cheers,

Kristian
