why would they say that when they have a rather good RR facility???
Perhaps there's something in what they say then - or they've had a bad experience with maybe an engine blowing

When you think about it most JTD owners buy the same spares for their engine so it therefore makes sense to install the same generic map (since ALL JTD engines should be the same) with perhaps variations between economy and performance maps.

Just got this reply off a local place.

' Thanks for your enquiry yes I am aware of these 2 tuning company's but both these company's are offering what is called Generic mapping meaning they will take a file that has been used before and upload onto your ecu, the problem is there are no 2 engines that are identical so the job you have done is never at its full potential,

secondly they cannot tell you what your BHP or Torque is as standard are you 10BHP up or down before you start?
as there will be no dyno facility to compare against.

Do these company's have any form of checking for faults or codes prior to carrying out tuning?

Also the figures that Celtic tuning are quoting for the Torque improvement are in my opinion way high, there is no way a standard production clutch can take a further 82lbft over standard without suffering from clutch slip maybe not that day but within weeks that clutch will be US.

We can offer you a full custom mapping session on the dyno with all graphs before and after showing areas of improvement including diagnostic checks at a cost of £385.00 fully inclusive.

I would expect BHP to be lifted by 35BHP over standard and Torque improvements of 50-55 LBFT

If you would like any further information or would like to make a booking one of our sales team will be happy to help'

Does this sound about right or? im trying look at all the different things i need to lol.

sounds about right to me, but i wouldnt be willing to pay an extra £186's for a local map when £50 would get you to and from red dot:confused:

so a red dot map would be 199 + 50ish in your fuel.

i know which one i would choose(y);)

Sounds like a lot of sales talk to me and that price is way too high.

Personally, as said before, I'd go the generic map route (safest option in my view) or if you really do want a custom map then drive to red-dot.
