Last week I had a brake light fuse go, never had any spares so checked to see if any I could use under the dash, needed a 10a but there was a spare 15a for the sub-woofer and the sunroof??????, I don't have those fitted to my car

Anyways swapped out the blown fuse and went down to the local motor mart

On the way down I realised the fuses were in holders, so there must be wire to them
When I came back I had a quick look but could not see anything

Today while nothing to do I thought lets see if there is wiring in (there is in my car the cig lighter wiring and some other wiring in the centre console, but of course its not complete
I took off the side pillar trim, cant get to anything behind that so took out the interior light, shone a torch and could see something
A few mins and scraped fingers later there I am with a connector, out with the Haynes manual, 3 wires (1 thick) and tester, the thick wire nothing, so the main fuse in the fusebox cant be in, but the the red and black POWER when ignition key turned

SUCCESS!!!!!!

put in my 12v-5v unit and stuck in the DVR, all working

So if you need a 12v switched supply for a DVR see if you have this

ps mine takes max 600ma so I dont think there will be a problem

for anyone interested, the other connector in the centre console (electric mirrors) the 2 blue/white wire are also live with the ignition switch

the fuse should be a 7.5a to the ignition switch, but as it has loads of stuff off it and some of the loads (electric mirrors) must take a few amps, as long as you don't go silly you should be OK for a couple of amps

What a brilliant place to power a dashcam from, saves having wires trailing all over the place.
Thanks for sharing:)

I've investigated the one behind the rear bumper, it looks like wiring for a towbar

There is a single wire connector behind the trim (passenger rear) I thought was for the boot light, but its the wrong colours and I couldn't be arsed to try and find the switch lead for it

While looking under the car I noticed a few rusty areas that I may need to treat when the weather gets better :):):):):):)

Couple of photos of my dvr installed

Notice most dvrs are made for lhd cars
