Technical 100 HP Sump Guard

Technical 100 HP Sump Guard

I take it only the 100HP and the 4x4 models have these trays or guards. Obviously the 4x4 models have them for off roading thats given. But why does the 100HP have one? Does the 1.4 engine sit a little lower so needs protecting or is it some kind of performance or cooling mod?

Think this comment (that I'm about to repeat) was made further up the thread (the original post is two years old!)

The 4x4 and Cross have a very heavy, thick steel plate underneath (heavy enough to need to use a trolley jack to lower it as you remove it -- one of the reasons for the 4x4's slow 0-60 time!). This will bounce off rocks etc!

The 100HP has, I believe, a plastic tray underneath -- primarily to stop water from puddles splashing up into the engine. So, an 'undertray' but certainly not a sump guard.

I already read about the sump guard on the 4x4 but thats not what I was asking anyway. I was just wondering if anybody had a a definite answer to why the 100HP has a sump guard and other models dont. I know it sits a little lower but if Fiat were that worried about water im surprised they just didnt fit them to all models.

It's not a sump gaurd it's an under-tray, I thought most cars had them, my P reg 306 GTI6 had one so I know it's not a new car thing, my last 3 cars did too. Don't recall my ph1 1.2 Clio having one though.
