Bravo (Classic) Van with a difference!!!.

Introduction

Heres the replacement for my highly abused yet extremely reliable Bravo.... Another Bravo (y) I'm moving up a year here :D Not going to be bitten like the last time, this is going to have a strip down and re-rustproof with a few bits to be thrown in too (copper lines all round are in the plans). Most importantly, this car is going to be converted to a van and painted black with some "toys" installed... More pics soon! :)

well if on the off chance you are getting a 20vt to molest, i would be interested in some bits off it ;)

No bothers, thats if I can find one on this side of the ocean!

how about a alfa 3.0 v6 engine lol:D

don't think that would make a particularly good car tbh, at least not for blasting down country lanes, need something revv-y for that - when did you last see a rally car with a V6 or V8 . . . ?

My plan was sussed out! Well not for country driving anyway... The second chance I get hold of one of those engines and the first chance I get the running gear I'm sure this will make an even more interesting read :D

V6 rally car? Metro 6R4 :D

I remember seeing a pug rally car with a 6L BMW V12, its on youtube

OK you got me with the 6R4 there - same block as the XJ220 as a random bit of trivia.
As another side note, i can confirm you can beat a 6R4 in a race in a stock seicento sporting - but you are relying on him to spin on a roundabout or you have no chance ;) lol

But in general rally cars have straight 4's. Even group B rally cars mostly had them, RS200 is a straight 4 turbo. All modern rally cars are straight 4 turbo's.

I'll concede alot of modern V-engines rev fast and high but i think we all know your not getting a brand new modern engine merely due to the cost of such an item.

True, my favourite car of all time, the Lancia Delta S4 :yum: is indeed a straight 4. The Metro couldn't touch it :D

Spot on: when I do get it there should hopefully be lots of pics of it in many pieces :p

I'm not after something fast, or a good handling car even. Just want to say it can be done and I did do it at some stage :)

But thats many many moons away yet... For now its all about gathering technical manuals and researching what interchanges :) don't worry you'll know when I'm going down that road ;)

Despite a naff battery and freezing temperatures, it still started :)

My current daily hack isn't a patch on this car, it doesn't make the right noises to begin with!

Right noises include...

I'm off for the winter on Monday :) after that, into the garage it goes :) and lets see if my new toy arrives this weekend or the following weekend... :D

Keep watching ;)

Arise!!! :D

Longest time between updates

Anything but forgotten (y) Probably because it's parked beside the Alfa

So, what have I done in the past month....?

The answer is.... Naff all (n) due to exams and other cars needing attention, this got on the back pedal.... Not anymore (y)

I opened it up one day, FLEUUUHHHHHH!!!!! :yuck: Mouldy

So I cleaned it, properly :)

Need to sort my offside lamp, dirty inside (n)
Image0965.jpg

Earlier today, I dug this out
Image1769.jpg

Along with
Image1770.jpg

Bodgery at its finest :p

First, cut to suit
Image1771.jpg

Test fit
Image1772.jpg

It's like it was made for it

Next, sand down...
Image1773.jpg

And hide the bodgery
Image1774.jpg

With some laquer too
Image1775.jpg

Now I should have more pictures of these...
Image1758.jpg

I found a decent full set of shocks and new top mounts  I changed the colour of them too ;) needs fitting, possibly next week.... :D

Keep watching... ;)

you seem to be 'finding' alot of these parts :p looking good pal, nice to see the bravo make front page again ;)

Cheers Chris! I'm glad to be working on it again :) Parts I need just keep turning up! I forget how many of these cars I've stripped over the years :p

No time wasted, breakfast and out the door!
Image1779.jpg

To fit these was todays mission
Image1780.jpg

These are for another day
Image1781.jpg

In a few minutes...
Image1782.jpg

A bit later...
Image1783.jpg

New top mount... Yes please :D
Image1784.jpg

No time like the present...
Image1785.jpg

Better :)
Image1786.jpg

Always remember when your fitting the bolts, copper grease
Image1787.jpg

Yummmy :yum:
Image1788.jpg

They're much stiffer than the ones that came out (y)

While the bonnet was up, I took out a redundant bracket
Image1789.jpg

The turret is welded into the bulkhead as standard  sweeeet!

I also decided to clean up my centre caps...
Image1790.jpg

Then the battery died!!! :bang:

Cleaned up very well (y) Cleaned the inside of the car again too! Kept at it till it got dark :)

Keep watching... ;)

Lets move onto Saturday, which was yesterday

First...
Image1825.jpg

Ha! :slayer:

You probably can see the effort that went into moving the bolt, the hole in the arm from the cutting torch...

Anyways, here's the, er, new one :p
Image1826.jpg

Oh dear :bang:
Image1827.jpg

Not to worry I pulled one I made earlier from thin air (y)

Clean clean clean!!!
Image1828.jpg

Ready for greasing, then on with the "new" hub (y)
Image1829.jpg

I have no pictures of the old bolt, but there ain't much of it left :p

So here's another one I refurbished a bit (y)
Image1830.jpg

When I had that done, I checked under the car. Ironically, where I couldn't get to with the paintbrush the last time was crusty

I fought back, again :D
Image1831.jpg

Finally for now, don't forget to grease the bolt, to prevent it seizing (y)
Image1832.jpg

Keep watching ;)

Monday :)

Time to put in that bigger arb (y)
Image1833.jpg

It's slightly bigger and that bend is more pronounced. It as also a pig to put in!

My main problem...
Image1834.jpg

Stronger than the old one, I'm not complaining ;)

Now when I had that done I decided to replace these
Image1835.jpg

They were badly needed
Image1836.jpg

Perfect! Assembled the car, minus the tank and exhaust (y)
Image1837.jpg

Why it has a steel wheel :(
Image1838.jpg

Keep watching... ;)

That tire seems to have been running a "little" underpressured :p

What does the stiffer ARB come out off? (I've been considering finding a way to do this on my Brava. She rolls like an pig in mud under moderate cornering)

A Bravo TD100. Part number is the same according to ePER mind you but there's a visual difference and the bar itself is much stiffer than the old one :) The previous owner may have got an uprated one before me, its hard to know unless you look under a TD100, look for a more pronounced bend near the brake balance adjuster...

i agree clear signs of underpressured tyres

But what on earth did you run over to get that huge slice init?

Mot people would honestly laugh at your ??? over here lol

Ziggy

Shame on me for not checking the thread of the tyre. It was the last of the bad tyres anyway, the rest are new or relatively new. Thread is easily hidden with a car this low. I'm not laughing I have a tyre to fork out for unnecessarily :(

That's a 40psi tyre ate up by a failing trailing arm, not under pressured by any means. There was a lot of play in the arm hence why I took the car off the road to sort it. It's not a nice job. The play caused abnormal side slip thus wearing the inside of the tyre on straight sections, eating the edges of the tyres going round corners and giving an underflated look as a result. I'm sure you have seen many threads on the Punto forum with concerned drivers asking why their wheels are lying out at the back. Leave it long enough and this is what happens (y)

Roads are bad here, anything on the road could have caused that slit. People are so careless :bang:
