I took the trip down to red dot today to meet up with peter (GSR) and the other fiatforumers to fit the prototype GSR induction kit and rework the remap to go along with it.
After a snowy trip down with tom (TheWitt) and Ed (manthatkidisscrewed), we arrived and it was time to begin.
As my GP was running standard again (thanks fiat) I had it on the rollers first thing. It put out a respectable 135bhp which was exactly the same as how it ran standard before I first had the map done in the first place
On the rollers:
Then it was time to get cracking on the kit, after plenty of f*cking about with jubilee clips, cutting down sizes, and pulling out arch linings, we got the kit to fit nicely (thanks to mark (h2dae) and my mate will for giving helping hands when needed). heres a few snaps of the fitting, remember when the actual model goes into production, it won't be this difficult to fit as today was a trial and error day.
Stage 1, lifting the bonnet....
In order to get the filter to the coolest part of the bay, we had to go in from a different angle...
Arch lining came out in order for filter to get in. it will sit a little higher on the updated version, this is the best place for it.
Finally a picture of the kit fitted (before the MAF sensor and oil breather attached). And before a clean up, peter has some better pictures of it finished and i'll put some better ones up asap
We had it back on the rollers and gained alot of torque with just the induction on its own, I took it out for a spin and it made a big noticeable difference! Alot smoother and faster.
Then it was time to map it, all the excess air meant the fuelling had to be mapped the opposite way than it normally would, the map was on and the results are as follows: 187bhp and 269ft lb torque at the wheels. It is much quicker than with just the map and sounds great!! A lovely roar to it and you can hear the turbo well, got a few looks on watford high street as it dumped off in between gears
Before anybody mentions tyms torque figure, his figure off 300ft lb was calculated at the fly and not at the wheels, mine made 314ft lb at the fly
Add to this my weight loss to help along the power to weight, and the speed is very respectable. The power curve was flat as a pancake and much better than standard. Its fair to say its a complete sleeper, rapid!
Best of all, no smoke whatsoever, not one little bit. Not even on the rollers and those who have seen how much diesels smoke on the rollers after a map will know what I mean.
So there you have it, the first update of the GSR kit for the M-jet. The thread for the GP soon to follow.
