I took the trip down to red dot today to meet up with peter (GSR) and the other fiatforumers to fit the prototype GSR induction kit and rework the remap to go along with it.

After a snowy trip down with tom (TheWitt) and Ed (manthatkidisscrewed), we arrived and it was time to begin.

As my GP was running standard again (thanks fiat) I had it on the rollers first thing. It put out a respectable 135bhp which was exactly the same as how it ran standard before I first had the map done in the first place (y)

On the rollers:

Then it was time to get cracking on the kit, after plenty of f*cking about with jubilee clips, cutting down sizes, and pulling out arch linings, we got the kit to fit nicely (thanks to mark (h2dae) and my mate will for giving helping hands when needed). heres a few snaps of the fitting, remember when the actual model goes into production, it won't be this difficult to fit as today was a trial and error day.

Stage 1, lifting the bonnet.... :p

In order to get the filter to the coolest part of the bay, we had to go in from a different angle...

Arch lining came out in order for filter to get in. it will sit a little higher on the updated version, this is the best place for it.

Finally a picture of the kit fitted (before the MAF sensor and oil breather attached). And before a clean up, peter has some better pictures of it finished and i'll put some better ones up asap

We had it back on the rollers and gained alot of torque with just the induction on its own, I took it out for a spin and it made a big noticeable difference! Alot smoother and faster.

Then it was time to map it, all the excess air meant the fuelling had to be mapped the opposite way than it normally would, the map was on and the results are as follows: 187bhp and 269ft lb torque at the wheels. It is much quicker than with just the map and sounds great!! A lovely roar to it and you can hear the turbo well, got a few looks on watford high street as it dumped off in between gears ;)

Before anybody mentions tyms torque figure, his figure off 300ft lb was calculated at the fly and not at the wheels, mine made 314ft lb at the fly ;)
Add to this my weight loss to help along the power to weight, and the speed is very respectable. The power curve was flat as a pancake and much better than standard. Its fair to say its a complete sleeper, rapid! (y)

Best of all, no smoke whatsoever, not one little bit. Not even on the rollers and those who have seen how much diesels smoke on the rollers after a map will know what I mean.

So there you have it, the first update of the GSR kit for the M-jet. The thread for the GP soon to follow. :)

Looking good mate, the cone filter looks a bit of a squeeze in the wheel arch!

Will people stop posting remap posts with power outputs etc :p. It makes me want a remap even more, I told myself I would never have it done when I brought the car.

Just the insurance/warranty issues that keep putting me off, always at the back of my mind when i consider one.

Fancy a trip down the M6 so you can take me out in it. (y)

Very impressive indeed...

How much noisier is it? Why is there no smoke at all, I know we have banter about smokey maps but I'm suprised there is none under heavy acceleration?

I'd also be a bit worried about how low the cone is, won't it get all sh!tty down there?

looks good but i wouldn't wanna go into a fiat garage with that on. can you restore everything back to normal or is it permanent?

Depends on the cost aswell for an extra 5.4bhp and 14ft-lb torque.

My Stilo had a CDA kit on, and went to the dealership often. My 100HP has the GSR on, and I have no gripes sending it into the dealership once more; last time I saw the service director, he even asked me what I was planning to do with it.

Some fantastic results there Kris, bet you are well happy :D

Mate, it was an absolutely awesome day!!! And that kit you've just fitted is stunning...If you've got a multijet then get it 'cos it really makes a difference!! Makes it impossible for a starjet to keep up anyway! lol

Yea we had a good day didn't we? Your kit sounded very nice!

When the car is coming towards you there is a slight induction roar and you can hear the turbo whistle nicely, when you let off the revs you can hear the turbo spooling down and sounds a little dump valveish.

Theres nothing noticeable, the more air you have then the better the combsustion is taking place, this means less unburnt fuel through the exhaust (which usually comes through as smoke.)

You can just take the kit off and put your standard airbox in again. The gains vary from car to car, its not just the gains that give benefit its the smoke reduction (prolonging turbo life) and making it sound a little less like a diesel.

If you turn up to the meets events this year I will be glad to take you out for a spin ;)

The cone is low down in the arch, on the finished product it will be a little higher up. You should have seen the crap that came from the airbox...

Excellent work Kris good results (y). With what else you got planned you'll have the fastest GP in UK I'd imagine :).

Cheers chris, and that was what I was hoping. ;)

Probably brakes next, would like bigger ones rather than just discs and pads. Wondering what brakes can be fitted ie alfa ones?? I'll have to look into it further. probably coilovers aswell when funds allow.

Hmm VXR brakes maybe not sure what size they are? same chassis so if your lucky same mounting points etc :chin:

All the Alfa's use different chassis but you might be lucky with the 147 perhaps?. For what you'd pay for 147 GTA brakes it might be cheaper to look for a aftermarket solution (Brembo, AP Racing etc) :(.

VXR brakes sounds pheasable, and I was thinking from a car thats being broken for cheaper brakes...

Brembo and AP are again good but still expensive.

As my GP was running standard again (thanks fiat)

Did Fiat over-write your map Kris!!?

Great post BTW. Looks like it all came together nicely(y) When the Abarth SS arrives in 2014 and if you still have this car it could be an interesting contest I'm sure!

It was fantastic mate...definately hooked now!!! Thanks! Needless to say my road now know when I go out and come home!! :D

That's a good idea...'cos I was just going to go and sort some Red Dot brakes out. If you find any that work let me know 'cos I mite end up doing a similar thing!!!

-------------------------------------------------------------

I've seen the results of the standard diesel remap and the remap with the GSR Induction Kit and needless to say its well worth the extra money. If you've got a multijet then give it a try...the noise alone is worth it!!!

They did indeed!

haha yes, it will be interesting!

Well to be quite honest the GP brakes are good and red dot discs and pads may suffice, plus peter will do you a good price.

Fantastic results there bud.
Bigger stoppers sounds like the logical next step.

Thanks!
Brakes should have been first really, but the GP brakes are quite good anyway, and i'm not a nutter either. so should have them on asap.

Why was that?:( Was it service time or something?

New egr valve, I complained of a cokey turbo and I think they were clutching at straws to find problems so maybe reset it because of that?? maybe T can elighten us.

Ahh, Ok I guess thats an isolated case and you were half expecting it probably. How much is a replacement EGR valve if you don't mind me asking?
