Does anyone know if it is possible to install an auxiliary audio input into the standard factory installed audio unit on the 500?

If so, do I require any special kit and where (in the UK) can it be bought?

My dealer offers an iPod input but I just want a standard aux jack input so that I can run other MP3 players through the unit?

Please advise....

You can play MP3 without Blue&Me .. I have had MP3 playback for 6 years, its funny how over last 2-3 years everyone wants MP3 playback.

I can see the benefit in having an Aux in - but I would not want an Ipod type connector, as I hate the little white things - such bad music players.
 
I know what you want had it in a C1 only good thing about the car i used to plug my mobile into and run the mp3 and it worked as a hands free with the talky piece pluged in then put in the aux not sure how to do it you would have to select it on the stero not sure if possible you can buy a tunner that works through the radio plugs into the mp3 find the signal store it listen to your tunes :)

The only thing bad about them is that they've been made to work with Windows aswell as MacOS. I've had 4 of them and they've all been completely faultless.

As for the aux input, I believe there's a way you can connect it to your head unit, you get an adapter to convert some of the wires (maybe rear speakers I think?) to RCA female connections and then buy an RCA ->3.5mm jack converter. It's a bit complicated but it can be done!

EDIT: Or do as that link above says if it's the same connection.

I primarily use Linux - so the iPod is rubbish on my O/S.

However even under Windows, I hate hardware that forces me to use bloatware. iTunes is a nightmare, and also I don't like that I can't just my own folder structure rather than ID3 based tags.

I have had 3 iPods and definately no more. Sansa clip fantastic, works natively under Windows, Linux, and OSX with no drivers whatsoever. Just the way things should be

Sadly if you can't hook people in with drivers and proprietry software then you can't make them pay over the odds for content ;)
 
The easiest option would be a small fm transmitter, allowing you to pick the signal from the mp3 player with the car's radio. They're not always great, but might be worth a shot though

Hi After all the not so helpfull answers I can give you the answer you are looking for. What you need is a lead from your aux in (sometimes called CD changer input) at the back of your head unit to a 3.5 jack plug. This will allow you to play any MP3 player through your unit. As the head units are Blaupunkt you should be able to get one off ebay for that head unit. If not ask a ebayer who advertises these leads to make one up for you. Worked for me when I had a Smart Roadster and it cost me £12. You can also get the ipod connection kit from Fiat, I think this has a 3.5 jack plug as well as the normal ipod lead. The 3.5 jack plug will not charge your player though.

Just looked at the ipod connection kit and it does not seem to have a 3.5 jack plug connection. Your only option is the lead to the aux in at the back of the unit.
