500X 2016 500x

Introduction

Picked up my second Fiat this week. A 2016 Fiat 500x. Car has only 12k miles and is a one owner before me. Still had plastic on the touchscreen. šŸ˜‰ Love the look and styling.

Owned a 2012 500 for a number of years and managed 150k miles before selling it. Loved that car.

Looking forward to this one for my wife as well. Just purchased the following:

- stainless rear bumper plate
- 500 madness lowering springs
- fitted floor mats
All from 500 madness

After I get that stuff I would like to keep the factory alloys and add a bit wider tire with possibly a small spacer to give it a better stance and improve any roll/ handling issues. I do realize itā€™s not a sports car but some of the renderings of a ā€œsportierā€ 500x are very appealing to us.

Welcome to the 500X Club / Brigade :)

I'm sure you'll love the car and enjoy tweaking it.

Whilst she may not currently look that Sporty I think you will find that it is a very capable both engine and handling wise. My 2015 500X is certainly so. Not sure if the 2016 model has a Sport Mode selector but on the 1.4 Turbo (can't comment on diesel models) the car becomes very lively and eager :)

We have the larger 2.4l engine with the sport option. We do like the sport mode best while driving.

Looks very tidy! If your wife is the main driver, I'd check how she finds the ride comfort before lowering it. I found it rather firm when we had our Lounge model, but that did have 45 section tyres, which didn't help.

I do have the 2.4l with sport mode. Very fun to drive.

Tint going on this week and all the parts get here tomorrow.

Here is a photo with the tint. Lowering springs came and I decided against the springs after having the car out on the freeway this week. Really liked the ride so keeping it that way for now.

Added tint, interior spider floor mats, rear cargo mat and tomorrow 20mm wheel spacers go on.

Is tinting the front windows to that extent legal, where you are? Looks very dark to me.

Mind you, you may have sunshine and other stuff, which we (UK) doesn't..

In Idaho - USA. They are dark. Itā€™s the look I wanted. Also did a 6ā€ banner to match at the top of the windshield.

20mm spacers from 500 Madness. Love the look. Before and after of front and rear.

Looks like a good improvement... just check that the front wheels don't touch on the liners on full lock.

I had a Alfa 155 once where the new wheels I bought had a smaller offset, to achieve the same look without spacers. Because the outer edge of the wheel was further out, when the wheels were on full lock, the arc of the tyre came closer to the curve of the liner, and fouled slightly on full lock. It was only really a problem when reversing, since the tyre caught on the "vent" louvres in the liner and went "grrrrrrrrek". I had to increase the offset by removing the 155's standard (on the v6 anyway) 4mm spacer and that sorted it.

Lock to lock seems just fine. No rubbing on my end. Really like the looks. Im sure it will make a difference in handling too. Certainly glad I did this. Would highly recommend them to any 500x owner on stock wheels.

I didnt want to change out the stock wheels because I like the factory look.

Loving our new to us 2016 500x. Put on about 1500 miles so far and itā€™s been great. A few observations from our end which are noted by many others as well.

- shifting is wonky around town but once on the highway itā€™s fine.
- normal mode is great on trips but sport mode is much more fun to drive
- the added storage space in the rear floor without the full sized spare is great for essentials while on a trip.

We have added the following

- 20mm spacers from 500 madness. The stance is so much better. I do feel like I can tell a handling difference as we did a canyon run after installing and it was a more solid feel.
- Max Spider 3d floor mats from 500 madness are insane. Such a great fit and the protection is wonderful.
- front window tint to match the back. Might not be legal in some places but it is here. Love the look.
- full clay bar and ceramic coating to improve the finish.
- 500 Madness Go Pedal is coming this week to hopefully improve the wonky shifting and overall experience.

The car only has 14k miles total so itā€™s fresh all around. Looking forward to more improvements under our ownership.

Update.

Go Pedal is here and installed. Itā€™s incredible. Only been a few short drives tonight and WOW. Even my wife noticed a difference and I didnā€™t tell her to expect anything. Just asked her to go for a drive and in Sport+3 itā€™s impressive. Completely changes the car in my opinion.

500 Madness - Throttle Response Controller

Great the Go Pedal is working for you. I have a 2015 500X and the Auto/Old Fart mode is really limp especially when towing. The Sport Mode is just about perfect so I drive in Sport Mode 90% of the time.

I suspect your 2016 500X either lacked the Mode/Mood/Traction know/joggle wheel or Fiat made the settings even worse than on the 2015 Cross Plus models.

One advantage you may have with the Go Pedal is that your steering sensitivity/effort/feel remains the same as you dial in/set your pedal response?

I do have the sport and traction selector dial but that didnā€™t make the shifting any smoother. Too jerky for my liking. With the pedal commander there is very little to no lag and the transmission shifts so much smoother. With the commander I donā€™t even use sport mode on the car. Just use the standard mode dial in the car and program sport plus on the commander. Itā€™s the perfect setting for us.
