Hey people.
I've just earned myself a visit to the shop with my Cinq Sporting.
I'm not a mechanic and according to two of them, this is in fact a very weird issue.
Here's the problem:
-For some time now, I've had a repeated "clunk" noise (passenger side near foot area) every time I changed gear on low speeds, going over bumps on the road or making turns at also low speed and reversing.
-After reading topics on this forum, I suspected gearbox mounts. Since I was going to check those I also changed the oil to full-synthetic, but in the end all mounts were fine and shifting gears became smoother.
-We got the car up at my neighbours/mechanic garage and we found the rear/inside bolt that connects the wishbone to the chassis was loose... well, let's give it some turns and that might be it.
-After some turning we found out that the previous owner not only forced the bolt in ruining the "spiral" (don't know the correct word for this), but we also found out that the nut welded inside the chassis was gone (well not gone but unwelded).
-We had to figure out a solution because it was impossible to tighten the bolt and I couldn't be driving around with a loose wishbone. First possible solution was to remove wishbone, and from underneath on the thicker steal, cut and weld a nut in place. I was advised by my neighbour to visit his friend's shop as he would do this with the proper tools.
-I arrived at this next location and after some looking around the problem, it was decided to reach the nut from inside the car, weld and get it fixed. I don't know how many of you owners ever looked at passengers foot area, underneath the carpet and rubberised surface, but there's a hole very close to that nut position... it's close but it's impossible to reach it.
-The process to repair this was to cut from to hole to the back, bend the thin steal to reach the nut, weld the new nut in place and finally assembling it all with a new bolt.
This was a pain and a very, very weird issue... it seems I had been driving around for some months with one of the wishbone's support just hanging around.
