Allan,

Please confirm whether your 2003 registered vehicle is an x244, or an x230 model. While the x244 was introduced in 2002, due to conversion and sales delays it is quite possible for an x230 to be registered in 2003.

Hi it’s the 244 model
It seems possible that since the towing dolly was "plugged in, it may have overloaded the "Switch Control Panel" which embodies the flash generator, or more simply blown some fuses. As the vehicle rearlight clusters are separately earthed at the rear, a faulty earth would seem to be an unlikely cause.

I am attaching Fiat eLearn diagrams, to which I have added component designations, and my own version of the LH Cab fusebox which is slightly customised, but still mostly applicable.

@a kuenne ,

If you follow this link to 4cardata, you be able to look up diagrams online, but do be aware that some are obscured by oversize script. The advantage is that you can scroll down to each component, click on it, and read wiring details.
