Regardless, in 2004 it was made illegal to tint front of the b pillars.

The Law:

You are not allowed to tint your windscreen or front windows AT ALL. Anything forward of the B pillar (middle of the car) MUST NOT be tinted in anyway. You are however still allowed to perform any level of tinting on your back windows.

na theres no chance all cars have 70% standerd. maby im rong but im pritty sure im not.i recon my puntos standerd tints is aprox 85% 90% ish. but thats just a guess.as they let pure light threw. and very easy to see in or out.
im only going to get my back section tintid till i can afford extra to get the front done. where i got my quote the guys seem very helpfull and do not look like they will do me over. so if i ask for max legal tints on the front.then thats what they will do. i even asked them if they go over my old tints (standerd ones) or if they take them off. they said they go over the old tints. and said to me they will not go over the law amount on the front.so i trust these guys.
even if the driver gets done by the police and the garage dont im pritty sure the word will get passed about and the garage will get a bad rep and then no custom. so im pritty sure if anyone askes any garage to do under legal specs then im sure thats what they will do. and i would imagine if you asked for over legal tint many may well refuse that.

make your mind up mate lol. 1 min your saying cars come with standerd 70% tint but now your saying its ilegal to put any tint on the front half????
hmmmm so if tints arnt aloud at all on the front why do cars come from the factory with slight tints? the legal limit on the front is 70% no darker. read it on the net. ask at garages. ask people that even sell tint film on ebay. they will all tell you its 70%
so i dont no where you read that no tints aloud whatsoever on the front but thats wrong.

Pre 2001 it was 70%, then the law changed. I had forgotten about it so rang a friend who runs a window tinging business and asked him to shed some light, he mentioned it was illegal to tint front of the B pillar and the cogs in my head started to turn and I remembered.

:bang:punto are at the legal limit end of! and i can see out of my front windows in anylight they dont make it hard to see out at all. but when it gets dark it does make it very hard to see out of the rears sometime i cant see anything out of them so if you dont like the sound of that dont get yours done to dark

mk2 puntos are at legal limmit??? f**k me i wouldnt have guess that. they let loads of light in even at night lol. but yer on the back im going to do medium smoke i think.as with the standerd tints on the back itl just be a lil darker. i wouldnt go for limmo dark as it makes the car look daft and impos to see out of at night. so im not goin that dark,

hmmm so why are people still saying its 70% on the front? and why are they still making cars with tints on the front? and what are we ment to do then? take off all our front tints?
theres so many diffrent legal views on front window tints its unreal.

I'd go off the basis that all tints forward of the B pillar are illegal.

Punto's are at the legal limit.
Any tint applied puts them over the limit and makes them illegal.

You can argue all day whether or not you'd get caught with a 95% tint on or not, the fact is if VOSA stopped you and did a light reading on your windows and they came out at 65% they'd make you rip them off and more than likely fine you.

well like i said im only getting the back done for now till i can afford the front. wich before i get the front i will do more research on this and find out whats what with the front before getting them done.

but anyways do you guys think £100 for the whole back section is reasonable for a 5door mk2 2000(xreg) punto?

Mate sorry to say you are missing the point. Punto's are built with windows on the legal limit as are most cars. Any additional tint, even the lightest tint will push you over.

The point isnt what you can get away with. I can drive with no MOT, no insurance and no licence and may not be caught. That doesnt mean it makes it legal.

So saying your friend has darker front tints and hasnt been stopped doesnt mean that it is legal to tint your front windows. If he has a crash the insurance will not pay out because your friend have broken their terms. Good luck to your friend with paying out of his pocket.

i think cops are givving up on modders tbh. like them blue led washer jet lights or any kind of blue led on the front we all know is ilegal. but theres that many people doing it that cops are giving up on stopping them. think same goes with tints

just to let you all know i tried to tint my rear window friday and add to my guide, i used a hot air gun this time and the soap on windscreen. it was unbelievebly hard to get it looking half decent, i eventually was half happy with it then the next day looked again and its bubbled. that was my second attempt so as of now im going to pay someone to do it.

i reckon its best way mate. i was thinking months ago of jus buying film and doing it myself. but read up how much of an arse ake it can be. then i thort im not even goin to bother attempting it. so rather than waste £30 on tryin myself first im going to pay for them to be done. they getting put on 2day at 2oclock so il post pics up later :-D
