My fiat was going to fiat last week, and on the way It had a blow-out on the front right tyre. My dad was driving, as I was off to outward bounds. He couldnt find aa number, and called fiat, as it was going there.
i got a call today, saying my car is finished, but they are charging £80 for the call out fee.
1) is this unfair, as it was goingto that destination anyway
2) being an aa member, (typical first time there needed, dad cant get hold of them) would they pay my callout fee?
cheers all :)

So who picked up the car - the franchised garage? What has this got to do with AA?!

the fiat garage, to which my fiat was going to came and picked it up. Its a long shot, and I think i know what the answer will be, but because im an aa member, and have breakdown cover, i was wondering if they will pay for call outs such as this.

So basicaly you want them to meet the costs because your Dad couldnt find the breakdown number and you were not even in it at the time??...Hmmmm hardly shortfalls on there behalf is it?

I think you might find AA membership and cover applies to the individual, not the car itself, at least thats how mine works. Its not some sort of breakdown insurance policy.

There's no reason for the AA to pay anything if you didn't call them.

Had you called them, they would have either fitted the spare wheel, attempted a temporary repair of the tyre or taken the wheel to a trye fitter for repair/replacement. There was no need for a recovery.

Also, if you were not in the car at the time of the breakdown and you are the only person on the membership, your dad would not have been entitled to anything from the AA, unless you have car based membership for any driver.

they sell both, i have personal cover for any car even if i am passenger. but the ff bus has its own aa cover no matter who is driving.

is aa cover taxed as breakdown insurance?

lol when you put it like that, it does seem a bad question. my cover is on the car though, i had the option of car or driver, and put it on the car.

i forgot to add, it doesnt have a spare wheel, and when dad went to get the blow up and go kit or whatever its called, its never been used before, and was still sealed, but the nozzle was broken. so thats why he needed a call out. not sure why nozzle was broken, as its never been used, and i dont store anything near it, so might have been broken from when they put in car from new.

from AA t&c

AA Membership can involve you contracting with two insurers for your breakdown cover: Roadside Assistance, Home Start and Relay are provided by The Automobile Association Limited and Stay Mobile is provided by Acromas Insurance Company Limited (AICL). The Terms & Conditions of Breakdown Cover are set out in the “AA Membership Breakdown Cover Policy” part of this booklet.
so may be worth a try

Stay Mobile is the new name for Relay Plus. If you have it added to the membership, you get the option of a hire car, hotel accomodation or public transport costs if the car can't be repaired. Car would have to have been relayed somewhere for it to apply.

But, whether you have Stay Mobile cover or not, it doesn't make any difference to this situation. If you don't call the AA but call someone else instead, the AA aren't liable for anything.

applies to the car according to the aa (business)
refused to come out and replace a tyre. because they had a c as an x
we later found out.
you stand to gain nothing from aa even when its not your fault.
that and some other reasons is why aa are crap
RAC are far superior even tho no car has broken down under them in 3 years (i think)
but the letter thing is a impossible they label envelopes
