Why is it called Fiat Panda mk3?

Just out of curiosity, so on the Fiat Panda section, you get the three model generations, the classic panda, the Mk3 (169) and the 2012+ generation.

Why isn't the 169 model called Mk2, considering it came after the classic, and the 2012+ gen labeled Mk3?

We did wonder about this when naming for forum originally - going with:

Classic Panda (Mk1 + Mk2) (Gen 1)
Panda (Mk3) (Gen 2)

etc etc ... but for whatever reason, we decided to go with marks rather than generations!

Interesting, I did know about the two older generations but considering how similar they might look at first when compared, I never knew they'd be considered mk1 and mk2 respectively, thinking it was just a facelift. It does make sense that way

I remember the debate about this at the time, but ultimately it was our Panda Mk3 (Gen 2!) mod who had the final say

We only switched the naming like that when the 2012 model came out as we couldn't have just "Panda" and "Classic Panda" as the forum names anymore
