Why images HAVE TO be from gallery ?

Hi all

Today I updated my member motor thread and I can't link my images from my hosted web server.
Why these restrictions ?
I read a thread about slow loading, etc... But Internet is made like this, link and images - not always on the same servers.

Don't really understand the reason. I post my images on many forums, I have them centralized on my web server, don't want to manage this for all forums.

It's possible to change this ?

Fwiw I think ALL photos should be hosted on here and this rigorously enforced in all sections. There are huge gaps in some of the threads, which everyone accepts is a problem. Personally I hate the photo bucket, snapshot, etc images too - they often "go down", are very hard to view depending on what device you're using, you usually can't zoom in on them, and some (like Farcebook) won't allow access to people not signed into it. :bang:

Why shouldn't everything be standardised anyway? If it works best for everyone, that's a good thing! :idea:

I have to agree, I feel that the only places where externally hosted images should be accepted are Leisure Lounge/Spamalot, Auction Watch and in any threads tagged as Off Topic. Given that the only place where the rule is enforced (and despite protestations to the contrary, with good reason) is Members Motors and that you can get unlimited storage space for £1, I'm of the opinion that the OP is making an issue out of nothing.

You choice, but as you'll know, having your own server, forums are not free to host, hence restrictions for people who don't want to donate - you already get a lot free on here, a single small donation to unlock a lot more isn't too unreasonable imo, but its your money and your choice

I share the same point of view with pics hoster's your describe : not the best and far from reliable.
But, again, if forum propose pics hosting, people will use it, simply. As it is simpler to use the integrated one, why searching another ?
Yet, this not mean blocking others : if you already have pics on internet, you can link them. Simply.

Internet has a good name : cross links, shared addresses, pictures is the way it is made. Wanting to have a most consistent forum is a great thing, wanting to make it "sealed" is not as good.

Oh by the way, one strange thing: in this topic, except matt93 (that think like me) you are all donated members...

donations on ff last for life so someone could donate £1 and host every photo they have ever taken on fiat forums servers for life and never have to pay for their own server.

there is many reasons we are all donated members its because we are not selfish, things we get for a small donation give us more than the value of the donation, and we see no ads.

I don't want, I asked for. I have had the answer, as I said, no problems.
I'm not convinced, but I have not to be. I use it like this or not. But if asking something or a little change result in "this is like this, go away" this is not a good mentality.

How much a year of hosting FF cost do you think ? I think it's well covered by ads and donations.

There is nothing to discuss. There was no animosity until your point blank refusal to accept that this forum only allows pictures that are hosted by the forum. Even now I think the responses are calm and respectful. If your not happy with the answers your getting that is not our fault. As has been said before, there are too solutions: live with it and stop moaning or leave the forum.

It's just a statement of fact. A discussion is pointless as we, the members, don't make or influence the rules, we have to work within them. I think the OPs problem is the fact that this forum doesn't run like ones he has influence in and he'd like it the same so he doesn't have to think too hard when he's using it.

I agree with the OP to a point, but also agree with mods etc that forums need to have rules and members, basically, need to just abide by them - otherwise there'd be anarchy.

Most forums are not run as a democracy, the owners/admins set the rules, and you generally agree to such rules when you join.

However, in this day and age, privacy and copyright laws are at odds with the T&Cs and/or the way some of the rules are implemented here.

For example, the inability to edit or remove any posts or images. Just because the rules say something to the effect of "you give us a perpetual irrevocable licence to use/disseminate your posts/images" doesn't make it particularly legal to do so.

e.g. I no longer own a Fiat, so I wanted to remove my MM thread as I don't personally feel it's right that there's images of what is now someone else's car posted on an internet forum. I found that I couldn't remove the thread, nor the images (which, by the way are stored in my 'personal' gallery on here). It did however let me edit the first post, which I did to remove the images - and so you now have one of the dreaded broken theads - rather than the thread just being removed in it's entirety.

In my mind, it does raise the point that if a user wants to remove an image/post, he/she should be free to do so (IMO).

I need to ask the question... what happens if i user says "I no longer agree with the T&Cs of this website"? What SHOULD happen is that the user and all of their posts, images, personal information etc is removed. This is the case in the vast majority of commercial websites I am on/have been on. I suspect that isn't the case here though?

Not really, in life you have to make choices you need to stand by imo, if you post something then whats the difference to if I say something to your face? I can't undo what I've said in person, so why should you be able to do so on a chat forum

one of the T&C's people agree to when they join says they accept that the account will be forever after they have posted, i am unaware of any laws in the country that ff is registered in or hosted in that make this illegal.

you will also find that even on the sites where stuff can be deleted google will often still have a copy in its cache.
