Hello!

I've got a 1.2 petrol Panda (2012), I've been told the coolant needs topped up. I've not done this before and I'm clueless trying to work out which type needs used, would the attached (G12+ OAT) do the trick?

I ran it through Halfords coolant checked and it came up with G30, which I can go and nab but I've got this one here.

Thank you.

The OAT type coolant should be replaced not later than 5 years. On any engine.

thanks
that makes sense, but nowhere in the Owner Handbook does it say this!

Hello,
Yes that's correct type and is already diluted so you can just pour it straight in the coolant fill point to between minimum and maximum marks.

while checking the OH (above) I also noticed this:

PARAFLU UP anti-freeze is used in the engine cooling system. Use the same fluid as in the cooling system when topping up. PARAFLU UP cannot be mixed with any other type of fluid. If this happens, do not start the engine and contact a Fiat Dealership

It sounds like they mean it…

G12+ and Glysantin/Comma G30 OAT coolant IS the same type of fluid as Paraflu UP.

Thanks guys - I’ve learned something new + important today!
Just found this Valvolene page (link below) explaining the various types - hope it helps others not familiar with the terms (like I wasn’t)
Interestingly it says the older “IAT” must be replaced every 2 years and “flushed”, but it doesn’t mention flushing for the 5 yearly replacement of OAT. Is that an oversight, or does OAT just not require flushing?

Probably an oversight. I would always flush when changing coolant.

@LauraBranniganFiatPanda well done for noticing coolant was low.

It shouldn't really lose any. Keep a close eye on the level from now.

This coolant pipe on the 1.2 is famous for rusting. If yours is showing any signs of weeping, replace it ASAP.

It can suddenly get a lot worse, dump a load of coolant and wreck your engine.
