General Where's the selespeed relay located?

I'm having some issues with the selespeed pump (it's dead), and in almost all threads regarding this problem - advice is given to check the relay. But where is the damn thing? The question have been asked numerous of times, but noone has answered it - EVER.

Also, I find it hilarious that there's no guide or picture displaying the mounting of the pump and motor, hence it seems that alot of people has faced this challange. I found a youtube video and highres pictures on how to repair my 25 year old lawnmover gearbox in seconds, but on this i get 4 images with 200pix?

So where's the relay, and also could anyone give advice on how to remove the pump motor (it feels unnecessary to remove the whole pump?) ??

I'm thinking of removing the bolts with red circles, but is 3 all or is it more? The yellow would be easiest but I can't access it from either above or bellow.

The Stilo workshop manual does not show where the relay is, so you may have to locate it by tracing the wiring to it. According to the wiring diagram, the relay is not in any of the fuse boxes so is probably in the engine compartment somewhere.

The relay is 30amp, so will probably be a small square one about 2.5cm². Wiring colours to the relay (J87) are shown as R=Red, B=White, N=Black and M=Brown, however wiring colours in the workshop manual are often wrong. Easiest wire to trace would be the white wire from terminal B on the pump (N47) to terminal 4 on the relay.

Other component that connect to the relay are the gearbox ECU (M54), the engine compartment fuse box (B1), and the multi earth point (C10) located next to the battery.

I assume you have already checked the 30amp fuse F5 in the engine compartment fuse box?

Nope, I'll do that. I did take the car down yesturday and found that pump won't work with power directly from battery either. Guess it's dead. Thanks for the blueprint though will look for it just in case. Btw, I went for the bolts shown as yellow, it was 3 of them bitches.

Yet another dead pump, what's your plan, I was faced with a £900 bill for a new pump, ended up getting a salvage one for £50.

Have a look about for used pumps from Alfa's etc.

Might be worth giving AlfaShop in Norwich a call (http://www.alfashop.co.uk), normally very good with prices from experience and they know exactly what they're doing

If you're of an engineering background you might be able to strip the pump and replace the bushes in it, as I suspect that this is all that has failed.

Good advice there, my motor on the pump had completely sized up. Got a scrappy and all is well so far.

Yep, I'll try to replace the brushes. Not sure were to find new ones though, are there any brushes brand or model # that I can search for?
Also, will there be issues with air in the system when I put the pump back in or does it bleed out it self? I'll upload some images out on how to get pump out from underneath later (was a bit of work though, not sure how it use to be done but I didn't want to remove the breaking kit..).

You'll need to get it purged, either main dealer or specialist, or should be able to do it yourself with Multiecuscan.net software

OK, now it works. I'm thinking of moving the pump so it can be accessed from above, hence I feel unsure on the lifetime on my fix (brushes are twice the length as before, but still..). Bad idea?

Btw, I reused the existing clamps, no soldering, which is also reason to my concern.

So... did you find the relay? or was all the research I did for you a waste of time?

You posted above that no one has said where it is. Now's your chance to say where it is and post a picture of it.

I found that the pump was broken before you replied. It's not even installed yet, tell you when I get there. ^^

I have my car in bits at the moment doing the clutch. Have just removed the Accumulator and associated solenoids and having a coffee before tackling the robot and pump. The relay in question is hanging off the loom next to where the battery tray would be.

When you get the car back together, can you post a picture of the relay's normal location.

It was just sitting loose before I even started the job. It will end up where I put it. Just have a look around the periphery of the battery box. It was visible at the start of the job so should be able to be found. As can be seen it has it's own separate base which I suppose was clipped onto something. I will try and find clip.

I also had a relay hanging outside the tray, it was looking very unprofessional so I thought it was the previous owner that did that. It was at the left side in middle of battery tray and accumulator. Not sure it's the correct relay tho, I'll check when I get back car back together today. By the way, I got broken clips all over the tray so it should probebly be somewere else.

20 cm from main loom, probebly supose to be located at left upper corner of tray.

Gearbox seems to work but car won't start, hope it's bad battery - just getting a ticking sound from starter or engine then display flicker and car dies.

I doubt Fiat would have designed it to hang loose in the battery box.

Revolty's picture shows 2 plastic clips on the relay socket. Perhaps there are 2 holes in the side of the battery box for the clips to go in?

There're 2 matching holes exacly were Maigretnz relay is located.
