General What is this for ?

I’ve just acquired a pair of s/h sears fit my Doblo - I needed a height adjustable drivers seat. The passenger seat comes with this lift up compartment (see photos). However there is no usable space below it when closed so I can’t figure out what’s it designed to do. Anyone got any ideas ?

It is the size of an A4 paper. Paper storage

It is the size of an A4 paper. Paper storage

Seems like a lot of work making a seat to simply store some A4. And it would literally be just a couple of sheets as the foam part when slotted back into the seat is hard down on the base. There is no cavity. Surely that can’t be the answer.
