General Welding rear floor/jacking points

damn man that suks

I'll find out how many £££s it sucks by on Tuesday. To be fair though, the corrosion damage was already done pretty much as soon as I used it as a jack point, so putting the jack through it was more, "Oh 'bleep', what have I done?" shock than anything. Good job there were no brake lines or fuel lines passing under there.

Good to know that I am not the only one that has made this misassumption. I usually consider myself pretty competent (on many occasions, more competent than some garages I have been to). However, this was a real face-slapping dumb moment.

Hopefully its not that expensive to be mended please let me know how much it costed you as i have a bit of welding needing to be done

Will do unimatrix. At least the corrosion was due to my mistake. Otherwise the shell is in very good condition. Wind back 20 years and you would struggle to find a 13 year old car that wasn't built completely of rust.

Right, I had the bill today...

£192.06!

Now, £20 of that was laser tracking, and probably an hour freeing my track-rod ends at £40, so that means that the work cost about £130. I must add though that I went poking around and found the corrosion to have spread to quite a large bit of the floor area, and they've done a really nice, clean job with repair plate being moulded to follow all the contours and dimples in the floor. Properly painted on the top (albeit in black) and underseal painted on the bottom.

damn that's a lot of money i sure hope mine doesn't cost them figures hopefully with me welding a plate over mine it passes the MOT all i need to do next is fit the track rod end on the passenger front

Hi guys, havent been on here for quite some time, in fact last time it was when i had my S reg Black Bravo, which i loved till the cam shaft went in dec, now got i black S reg sporting punto, now usually im very good at spotting stuff but not sure weahter ive bought a lemon in the end, drives and aprt from a few cosmetic stuff which i can put right, i didnt notice on the M.O.T sheet that it had an advisorie on rust ( stupid me), it wasnt till i got home and checked all the paper work again etc that i saw it and checked it online and saw the advisory saying corrosion on floor panels on jacking points now looks like it had been jacked up and its puished it up making a small hupm on the passenger footwell which you can feel when you put your hand on the capet, its due its M.O.T in sept, and just wondered can a rust prob like this be sorted, by welding or is that the end for me car?

Many thanks for any help much appreaciate
