Recently bought a 2014 Westfalia Amundsen 640 campervan. This is my home for a while... urgently need help solving the mystery of damp watermarks inside a few of the cupboards. Not living in it right at this moment but this happened before the rain started and also it was very cold and icy before that (condensation? ) I have taken everything out of the cupboards but don't have anywhere dry to put it just yet.
Has anyone else had this issue? May have to take cupboards out. Would rather not and would really appreciate some advice on how to deal with this issue.
Many thanks

Hi,

Perhaps post on a motor home forum too.

Good luck

Hello,

The aluminium pot on first photo is an TV antennae? It looks like a coaxial cable to me.

If so, I assume it sticks outside from the roof. As the most of the water is in the cupboard on the first photo, the one with the antennae, I assume it's the seal there which is leaking. In a 10 years old van all of the roof seals can me damaged and cause leaks. Looking at the third photo it was not the first time it leaked...

I have no idea on how it looks from the outside, but you have to climb up and see what's going on. I'd start by removing the antennae, cleaning every surface and apply new sealant.

Buy a good one, Sikaflex preferably, but can't remember the number (the one I have at home is 521UV, but check and confirm). Also use the appropriate primer on all surfaces before applying the sealant. Respect the weather conditions to apply (temperature, humidity etc) to be sure it does the job.

Those aerials are notorious for leaking. They have an O ring that lets by. Follow the advice above and if you don’t need it, just remove the aerial and use some sikaflex with a plastic cap to just seal the hole.

I had to get a new sealing ring. Make sure it’s done up tight as well to stop it rocking around and breaking the seal.

The first priority is to stop any more water coming in, then dry out.

Talcum powder spread round will help identify where the ingress is coming from.

Thank you 😊 You sound like you know what you're talking and so I will follow your advice....very much appreciated!
