You can't beat a small Italian car in my opinion apart from an old MiniI'm looking for a panda 100hp or a seicento incase I can't find a Cinquecento. Just want to be back in a small Italian car.
There's a seicento abarth for sale on auto trader at moment. £2499 though, not drove one before. Had to get rid of an abarth 500 recently which was a mistakeYou can't beat a small Italian car in my opinion apart from an old MiniEven Seicento's these days are hard to get a decent one, my Seicento isn't a sporting but I only came across by chance when I needed another car & saw it advertised local ish, they are great fun to drive so I don't regret getting rid of a troublesome new Panda for it
, Matthewsons from the Bangers & Cash programme seem to get a few in though from time to time so could be worth looking on their site.
That's quite reasonable nowadays for a Sporting if it's in decent condition, the Abarth & Michael Schumacher versions were no difference in performance to a regular Sporting they just had cosmetic add on's such as 14 inch wheels, side skirts, Abarth logo in the headrest etc. my MK1 899 SX was just short of £2k 7 months ago with very low mileage of 22k, they handle very well probably the closest modern alternative to an old Mini, they do have a little body roll but it doesn't affect the handling which makes them quite entertainingThere's a seicento abarth for sale on auto trader at moment. £2499 though, not drove one before. There actually isnt any corrosion to the car itself, theres a few signs of corrosion to suspension components which we have cleaned up and repainted, id not worry about that its just an overcautious mot station testing a 25 year old car which belongs to a motor trader so it is bound to receive some advisories So who knows, id probably part with 2500 if that advisory hadn't of been there lol |
My car had the same advisories from previous MOT's & I thought the best thing to do was to go & view the car & make my mind up there & then so when I viewed the car in the barn I got it out off where it had been for around 18 months I got right underneath it to look at the floorpans & I looked in these areas especially, it turned out to be just minor surface corrosion around rear chassis legs & subframe area where the original factory underseal had flaked off in some areas which I cleaned up the same afternoon after getting the car home with a wire brush, rust treatment & underbody wax along with cavity wax for the insides of the rear legs which sorted it all out, what it turned out to be though with my car when I was getting the service history was that it was serviced & MOT'ed by Fiat main dealers all throughout it's life with what I assume very picky jobs worth MOT testers. The Last Mot says
When I asked if anything had been done to fix it the owner sent me this message
- Vehicle structure or chassis corroded within 30cm of a mounting, but not seriously affecting overall security Chassis and multiple suspension components corroded (6.2.2 (d) (i))

Yeh I usually wouldn't be bothered too much about suspension components as previous cars Iv had have had the same. It's just the mention of structural or chassis corrosion thats putting me off ABIT. It's a few hours away from me unfortunately so don't wanna waste a tripMy car had the same advisories from previous MOT's & I thought the best thing to do was to go & view the car & make my mind up there & then so when I viewed the car in the barn I got it out off where it had been for around 18 months I got right underneath it to look at the floorpans & I looked in these areas especially, it turned out to be just minor surface corrosion around rear chassis legs & subframe area where the original factory underseal had flaked off in some areas which I cleaned up the same afternoon after getting the car home with a wire brush, rust treatment & underbody wax along with cavity wax for the insides of the rear legs which sorted it all out, what it turned out to be though with my car when I was getting the service history was that it was serviced & MOT'ed by Fiat main dealers all throughout it's life with what I assume very picky jobs worth MOT testers.
That's fair enough, you'll probably be better off looking for just a normal sporting without the Abarth/Schumacher kit or a non sporting model both with 13 inch wheels as the cars with the Abarth body kits did tend to rot worse than the normal ones did, plus also the Abarth 14 inch wheels are hard to get tyres for as they are a weird size 175/50/14 from memory & I believe the only make available for that tyre size is Nankang which the less said about them the betterYeh I usually wouldn't be bothered too much about suspension components as previous cars Iv had have had the same.
