What sort of cost would i pay to get them adjusted (£) They are starting to chatter when cold. Sounds like an old fiesta in the morning.
Forgot to say, 1.2.

Forgot to say, 1.2.
All Stilo engines except the 1.9 JTD 8 valve have hydraulic tappets. There is no adjustment.
.
Hmm how odd, as in the noise. Ill do an overdue oil/filter change and see how that goes.
Cheers![]()
Good day
Since it is hydraulic, I would check oil level, low oil level will result in noise until engine speeds up and are warm.
If not oil level, than oil pressure, maybe oil pump or gasket?
If noise does not get less after it is warm and oil level and pressure is fine, then you have another problem.
I don't think it can be blocked orifices, unless you run with very very old oil and filter, and now your engine is grinding metal.
Even when the engine is warm, many people have reported the hydraulic lifters can become degraded by gunk inside them and on this forum it has been suggested to drain the oil and idle with diesel for 15 minutes because diesel is a thin oil with plenty of detergents.
Taking the cam carrier off is one way to find out if its an oil starvation problem or just caused by debris in the lifters
NOT RECOMENDING THIS AT ALL " idle with diesel for 15 minutes "
Unless you have a very bad oil/oil filter maintenance schedule or wrong oil or used "DIESEL" Your hydraulic lifters should be in good condition, even after 250 000km's
tip; never mix oils, if your oil is white, water is leaking in and then can help degrading engine parts.
there are proper products to clean or release sticky valve lifters etc
here is cheap one
What actually is your recommendation in my circumstances where i have created a video of the noise?![]()
I suggest removing the plastic cover and using the screw driver against the ear hearing test and listen on top of every piston set and see if the noise is specific to a piston set or on all.
If all are the same it might even be an intake or outlet gasket?
What grade oil are you using? Use something thin like 5w30, gets to the top of the engine quicker from cold, meaning less wear and less noise.
I always use Valvoline Durablend 5w30 in my 1.2![]()
Gawd mate. Mine is not that bad. More a slight annoyance rather than a royal pain in the ass.![]()

I think he meant to say use Diesel oil not actual Diesel. Diesel oil uses extra detergents that help clean an engine out.NOT RECOMENDING THIS AT ALL " idle with diesel for 15 minutes "
