Technical USB problem

I need to update my satnav (2016 Fiat 500). I have an empty USB stick, but when I plug it in I am getting a message that says:
Only one USB device can be connected to proceed. Please remove other USB devices.
Given that there is only one USB port, I am a loss to know why it thinks I already have a device connected. Any ideas?

Probably plugged in the rear?

The rear of the USB port is not accessible. What could possibly be plugged in there?

Maybe check the drive isn't partitioned or something and reformat it. I think it should be formatted to FAT32.

Alas, that didn't work. I reformated it to FAT32, and the error message remains the same.

I'm not sure but most modern radios have one on the front and at least one on the rear
