hi,

new to this forum (and owning a brava) and i've got to admit i bought the car (S-reg 1.6) off ebay because it was cheap as chips and i needed a run around and i have to say im actually rather impressed with the performance for what it is and i wanted to put a induction kit on it.

i dont like k&n and kind of put green cotton in the same group aswell as all paper/cotton filters so i wanted to get a powertec on there like i had on my last car but of course they dont do one.

is there just a universal opening i can bolt on to or do i need an adaptor plate or fixings?????

thanks

This is a filter not an induction. It will loose you power. And it is a pretty poor design of a cone filter.

Just out of interest: What is supposed to be wrong on cotton as a filter medium?

no technical reason really, just a k&n one on my astra and a friend on an almera and it seemed to get dirty pretty quick and then didnt work aswell no matter how much i cleaned it.....

had a powertec on my almera which i was very happy with, bought it because it had the same design as my old blitz sus on my celica gt4 which i was also happy with.

have seen one on e-bay too item: 170202670177 (sorry cant post links till 5 posts)

which would be your recommendation?

thanks for the reply btw :)

The flter should sit in the right position to start with. Often a cold air feed defeats the object.

Also it imprtant to have a defined length of induction as well as diameter.

The filter mouth as well as the stand off from the filter medium have its effects.

Best solution on the Bravo/a is a long tube going down between the inner wing and bumper. The air is cool and still there and the induction length is about right.
Astra suffers from excessive heat under the bonnet, which makes induction design akward.

which would you recommend green cotton, k&n or the e-bay jobbie?

the ebay one has no filter size on it. you can get good big twincone filter for about £20 in most places

all my searches just brought up the green cotton or k&n, any links to where you can get those ones?

halfords
or any of that type of place, dont seacrch ebay for induction kit, all that is there is made up jobbies. get the big filter and fit it where oldschool says then conect it to intake with straightest smoothest pipe you can find, and you will have a better kit than k&n or ebay sellers can put together

oh i see, so just a universal bolt on filter attached to some hosing and stick it down by the wing right? dont suppose you know what diameter hosing id need to come off the original pipework for a 1.6 do you? - i know, pushing my luck now lol :) i havent even looked at the filter assembly tbh i was just looking at specific kits on the internet.

wasnt too sure what he meant by "The filter mouth as well as the stand off from the filter medium have its effects."

all this is very much appriciated btw guys (y)

i used a second intake pipe from a scrapyard car, it looked original and alowed me to have the filter in the wing, like this:

i know that pic shows my 1.8, but i did the same on my 1.6 too.

there are loads of good quality universal filters on ebay for £10-20, as long as you get a cotton filter element and do not oil it then it will last a very long time and still acheive good filtration. you only need to oil it in sandy (desert) conditions. if you pay more for a branded product you only get a name, nothing else. i like the 'twin cone' style filters like this; http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Universal-K-N-Style-Air-Filter-Induction-kit-Sports_W0QQitemZ310030344725QQihZ021QQcategoryZ36680QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

are there any benefits having a set up like this on a 1.2?

and I did't see the person in the car through the windscreen at first and got a shock when I saw her.haha:rolleyes:

measured up the 1.6 one and a 70mm pipe should do the job, also got a oil breather to come off the crankcase so i can get rid of the resonating box aswell.

if its useful to anyone these are the ebay links for the tube and the breather....

they do different size tubing so take a look around.

as for how it all fits and works ill have to let you know after it all arrives..... im just hoping that ebay air filter that someone suggested earlier in the thread comes with a 70mm adaptor

motorfactors, sometimes they sell them seperately, sometimes you need to buy a pack of 5 or 6, but they dont cost much. i'm pretty confident your filter will be 70mm and you wont need an adapter.
