Hi All,
Been diagnosed with a stiff gear selector shaft on my TwinAir gearbox.
(It's hard to get into gear at times)

Any recommendations for a gearbox repair/rebuild or source a recon box to put in ?

Wiltshire area, or national delivery to my local garage...

Thanks

Out of interest..
5 speed or 6?

There Is a common issue on the 4x4 panda with a component that becomes partially seized

Standard 5 speed.

Garage diagnosed it and quoted up to £600 to fix it.. depending what it needed !
Plus the removal refitting/removal costs.. approx £1200 total. Plus a clutch I expect to be sensible.

Are you having an issue where the lever itself is hard to move, and not 'springing back' to the central position? If so, that is something on the outside of the gearbox (at least, it is on the diesel version and I'd expect it to the same on the TwinAir) and can be fixed by removing nothing more than the battery and cleaning and lubricating an external linkage. Ill add a link to a 'how to' about this in a mo...

The garage said they had lubricated all the points they had access to. It will be useful though to double check... thanks .
I'm working away at the moment, so don't have direct access to the car.

May be cheaper to fit a guaranteed box,
also you might have a DMF..?

I'm not familiar with the TwinAir, but I have a Bravo2 and if the gear selection became stiff,
I'd first disconnect the gear cables that connect the gear lever to the gearbox to try to
determine if the problem was in the gearlever, the cables or internally in the gearbox.
I don't know what type of gear selection mechanism is used on your car so I'm just
suggesting this as a possible diagnostic step before removing the gearbox.

Do you have Cruise Control..?

That may limit G. Box replacement options..

Which end of Wilts are you?

@portland_bill may know of a place still in business
I've not had to use any gearbox specialists since moving to this area, so sadly, no knowledge of any specialists.
As said above, some more diagnosis is needed, to determine if it is cables, lever assembly, selectors on top of gearbox, or internal. Often, if cable adjustment is out, selecting gears will be difficult as the cables are trying to place the selector offset from its desired position.

If it does need gearbox work, there is a specialist in Oldham, started specialising in Puntos, expanded to Panda and others. Might be worth talking to them. https://www.thepuntoshop.co.uk/contact.html

If the clutch is not releasing completely, drag in the gearbox will make selection difficult.
If your garage cannot give a definitive report, with explanation of what they've checked and eliminated, perhaps need a different garage first.
